Hello! I'm new here and know nothing about pearls and am seeking guidance from the experts on this forum. I received this necklace and earring set as a gift from a Japanese lady and am curious as to if they are real or not, and if so what kind. I googled and searched all over the web and can't find the maker/brand because I'm sure it's not sold in the US. Took it to a couple jewelers but they admitted they knew nothing about pearls ...
They have a heavy feel, tried both rub test (felt smooth) and tooth test (somewhat gritty), but a cheap looking clasp that says "silver" and not the standard 925 marking so I doubt it's silver. No knotting in between pearls but the drill holes are not perfect. The little single pearl on the gold necklace I know for a fact is real for comparison sake. Sorry I don't have a macro setting on this camera but I got some decent shots anyway, altho most have a reflection of my blue digital camera :T
Any replies are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

They look like imitation pearls to me.

They are very uniform/very shiny and have no overtones. The clasp and earring findings look inexpensive.

However, they are perfectly fine as a fashion accessory. Jackie Kennedy and Barbara Bush both wore imitation pearls.

Yes, I agree with Pearl Dreams. You have some very pretty imitation pearls. Hard to say whether the pretty clasp is sterling silver, but if the set was manufactured a few years back, silver wasn't so expensive and certainly sterling silver could have been used.
