  • Quality of light

I'm just back from a week in Marrakech, Morocco and the effect of the light on natural colour freshwater pearls there just stunned me. They glowed with colour and lustre like I have never seen them before. No wonder Churchill visited often, to paint. I found myself looking at my old familiar pieces all anew.

That is fascinating, and I, too, wish there were photos!

I think it may have to do with the latitude-- Morocco being closer to the equator than the UK is, sunlight comes in from more directly overhead. Perhaps there is less cloud cover there as well? Both of which would make the received sunlight more intense in Morocco.

I'm reading this article and finding it interesting:

VARIATION IN LIGHT INTENSITY AT DIFFERENT LATITUDES AND SEASONS, EFFECTS OF CLOUD COVER, AND THE AMOUNTS OF DIRECT AND DIFFUSED LIGHT
