Some of my beloved pearl pieces.
It all started with a pair of pearl and aquamarine earrings, along with a matching pendant, gifted to me by my mom over ten years ago. I still wear the earrings regularly. That small gesture sparked my curiosity, and over the years, I’ve slowly built a modest but meaningful collection.
From left to right:
Mikimoto 8mm strand
The photo doesn’t quite do it justice — Mikimoto truly excels at matching pearls. This is a beautiful, classic piece, and at 8mm, it’s a great size. Especially now, when most Mikimoto strands I come across are 6mm, this one feels extra special.
South Sea pearls with 14k clasp
I never thought I’d own a South Sea strand. They always looked too chunky in photos, and I assumed the tones would be hard to wear — something more suited to older women, I thought. But the first time I held one in person, I was instantly taken. The weight, the thick nacre, the subtle color shifts — it’s something you can only appreciate in person. This strand ranges from 9–10mm with a soft champagne hue. I don’t wear it out often, but I love slipping it on while sipping coffee at home. I’ve heard pearls thrive when worn, and I like that thought.
Pola 6.5mm Akoya strand
This was my first “nice” Akoya piece — a sweet little strand from Japan. I was initially drawn to the clasp, but I’ve come to love how youthful and dainty the 6.5mm size feels. The pearls has a pink sakura tone and good narce too. It suits my petite frame well.
Vintage baroque mini Akoya
I bought this on a whim, not expecting much since a few pearls had visible fading. But its choker length makes it so easy to pair with nearly everything I wear. To my surprise, it’s become one of my most frequently worn strands.
Imperial Pearl vintage opera-length with freshwater pearls
This one has quickly become a favorite. I’ve found myself reaching for it more and more, especially for layering or when I want something slightly more dramatic without being flashy. Lately, it’s the only necklace I’ve been wearing, which makes me wonder — should I simplify my collection and keep just this strand along with one or two others?
As much as I love every single strand here, I know I won’t be able to wear them all often.
If you had to pick — which ones would you keep, and which would you let go?
