The egg shaped pearls (long necklace) are cultured freshwater pearls from China.

The round pearls could be akoyas but I am inclined to think that they are also freshwaters, based on their luster, general appearance and the way they are finished -- the way the pearls attach to the clasp -- is lower end.

Freshwater pearls are not as costly as akoyas.

Good news, you can wear them when you want, even to the grocery store...they are fairly easily replaced. Expensive can be where & when your grandmother got them. When rice (krispy) pearls first came out they were expensive. When my parents brought me button pearls from China...they were new & expensive. So these could have been a first out on the marketplace freshwaters and expensive, especially if purchased in a higher end jewelry store.

The pearls will also have great sentimental value and remind you of your grandmother. Enjoy them, they are very pretty.
