I bought these pearls on the internet, the private seller said they were inherited, and had been in the family from the early 1930s.At first glance they look like modern Chinese fresh water pearls, but the clasp was really tarnished as were the attached rings, and the French wire was oxidised, plus the thread is very discoloured where it’s visible by the clasp.I didn’t pay very much for them, and will enjoy wearing them what ever they are,but were this shape pearls cultivated in the late 1920s? I’m assuming they are freshwater.I love the tiny pink pearls interspersed between the white ovals.

I agree, they appear to be modern freshwater pearls, so I have doubts that they were in the family from the 1930s.

People seem to think that everything their grandmothers owned was old. Grandmothers go shopping, too. :)

Silver can tarnish fairly quickly depending on local climate; humidity and storage methods are big factors. I have a sterling ring sitting on my desk that is nearly black and it's not old by any means (I want it to oxidize for detail and I will polish the high points).
