    Knotting an Endless Necklace

Hello, Beaders! Can anyone recommend a good video of instructions on knotting an endless necklace? I have been using a knotting method in which the thread is passed through each pearl twice. You string the pearls down to a thread-end secured with a paperclip (or something more secure!), push...

Where to find pretty box clasps?

Hi, beaders! Does anyone have suggestions for online sources for nice artisan clasps? I have found Claspgarten, SuzieQ studio and Sojourner but am looking for other suggestions for unusual and artful box clasps. Thanks, much!

    Rice Krispies?

My mom just gave me this necklace she got from a friend in Hong Kong a very long time ago. Chinese freshwater “rice krispies”? They are quite tiny pearls. Last photo with an 8-8.5 mm pearl for size comparison.

Contacting the Seller but in the meanwhile . . .

Are the Tahitians natural colors? They are so vibrant, I thought “maybe they are dyed??” Or treated by some other method? I’m just looking though bc I’m on my way to Ban Island (no, really). https://pearl-house.jp/pearls/gra-chica/item04.html

Why is it so hard to find a long necklace of Golden South Sea Keshis?

There is nothing out there except at Gump’s (oh, the premium pricing) and strands of tiny misshapen things. Is there a reason there are not more of such necklaces on the market? Has Gump’s bought them all up? Don’t pinctada maxima produce Keshis in gold any more? Is the Philippines grinding...

    How are these pearls strung?

I’m wearing a new Akoya strand today. I cannot figure out how they are strung. I figure they must be on wire because they are so stiff. But there are also these odd little wax (?) disks between the pearls. I bought them from a Japanese shop. Any insights? Should I restring them on silk...

    3D Printers

Hi, Beaders! Has anyone ever used a 3D printer to make beads or connectors or other findings? I'm curious how it might work and what sort of "filament" you used. Plastic would just be too tacky with pearls (though maybe I just lack imagination) but maybe resin? I understand that metal - or...

    Visual, Historical Pearl Reference

Hi, all: Here is a link to a website with a digital collection of objects from 4,000+ museums. For me, it is immediately useful for the enjoyable, but lightweight, matter of pearl jewelry design, for others perhaps for more "serious" matters. In any event, if, for example, you search "pearl...

    A Friend’s Mystery Strands

Hi, all. I’m sorry I don’t have better pictures but these two photos are of a friend’s necklaces. She says they are real pearls. Would you please help me identify them? The multi-color strand was purchased from a jeweler in New Orleans about 20 years ago. The necklace on brown leather or...

    Ban Island and Kasumis

I am officially banished to Ban Island!:cry: However, I have pearl strands - already purchased - to string while there. Do you guys think the Kasumis at Ayla’s Originals are authentic? I understand that the proprietors, Ayla and Tom Pizzo, are pretty reputable and used to be more active...

Real or Fake? What did I buy?

Hello, experts. I bought a strand on EBay that was pretty inexpensive considering the length. They are mismatched and had some odd shapes but overall are so pretty. And I really wanted a long strand. The kind of necklace that’s so long you can fling it over your shoulder and hula hoop it back...

How bad is it really to fondle your pearls?

I cannot resist fondling my pearl necklaces while I wear them. I know you are not supposed to, but have this probably crackpot theory that maybe this only applies to akoyas (or other pearls with a thin nacre). If you wear a necklace, say, once a week or every two to three weeks, is it REALLY...

Please help identify these gray dumplings.

I inherited these from an aunt and I have no idea what they are. They are heavy and feel cold. They feel gritty rubbed together so I figure they’re real pearls. They have some odd mottling and are maybe 11 mm. Baroque freshwater? They don’t have a very sharp luster, more satiny, I guess.

Is it really Kojima? What are these pearls?

I purchased this brooch from EBay for $75. Seller listed it as Kojima but there’s no receipt or identifying marks. However, it was so pretty, I took a chance. Does anyone know what kind of pearls these might be? The brooch measures about 2 inches wide. Perhaps the seller is even a member...

    Paspaley from Legacy Saint Jewelry

Hi, all: I'm a newbie on this site so please forgive me if this topic has been discussed (though I did not find anything on topic). Has anyone purchased from the Paspaley Pearl Collection from Legacy Saint Jewelry? Legacy Saint makes up their own designs but the website says the pearls come...
