    Where to buy rare/unusual pearls

I enjoy seeing photos of rare pearls like this; no idea of value. We recommend you look for comps online, but I suppose it will be difficult to find any.

Onegemme Live Chat with Pierre Fallourd on Super Bowl Sunday

Many thanks for cutting edge information from Pierre, Hisano and Jeremy. One of the best perks from hanging out here on the forum! Kamoka Pearls are also single origin, although without the formal documentation.

    New dilemma

Thanks, MrGray. I have seen some dyed pearls that do exhibit a very solid color, but much less often. You mention overtones; what colors are you seeing?

    New dilemma

I'm seeing deep tones of purple/blue more than anything else, which indicates to me dyed freshwater. Would you agree, MrGray?

    Rare uncultured natural saltwater pearls?

I agree with BWeaves, the pearls look so similar to each other they are likely cultured pearls, not natural pearls, but vintage freshwater pearls from either China or Japan. Of course, their sentimental value is priceless.

Tahitian pendant of 2006 from French store

A very pretty and wearable pearl and most important, you're pleased! Bail design is interesting with lots of gold. Pearl seems to be 9-10mm? The colors and overtones will vary with the lighting.

Very Unique Pearls...but I love them anyway!

Welcome, SoCalCJ! Fascinating, unusual pearls! I love them!! Very wabi sabi. They don't appear to have a bead nucleus. About what size are they? @jshepherd, what do you think?

It's always fascinating to look at gems, stones and pearls through a loupe! And a loupe is oh so helpful with untangling knots gone awry!!

Help with information- fake vintage single graduated necklace silver clasp, age? Any value?

The clasp has marcasite stones, adding sparkle and possibly dating the clasp to the 1940-1950's.

New to pearls and curious about these I found?

I agree, ringed freshwaters. It is difficult to explain. The colors lay differently on Tahitians. One seldom sees bright green and bright blue on the same pearl. Strong blue is rare in 1 Tahitian pearl, even more rare to have a strand with many blues. Shapes are off, as A Breaker mentioned...

Mikimoto Pouch but not Mikimoto Necklace?

Welcome to the forum, Hasha. My research indicates that Blue Lagoon pearls will have the clasp marked with BL, not the Mikimoto logo with the M inside the shell. This clasp looks like a commonly used fish hook clasp. I do see the 14k mark on the clasp insert, but nothing that indicates these...

    Weird pearls

Just a thought, perhaps, after cleaning, take the best pearls to make a necklace and use a blue gemstone like apatite to coordinate and alternate with the pearls.

    Weird pearls

Long Potato, If you want to try bleaching, you might use hydrogen peroxide greatly diluted with distilled water. Perhaps test with just a few pearls. This is NOT something I have done. First, though, I would give them a bath in mild cleaner like Dr. Bronner castile soap and see if that would...

Help with information- fake vintage single graduated necklace silver clasp, age? Any value?

Imitation pearls may have a high sentimental value, but not much dollar value. Is there a story with this strand?

I need to know how much these worth

Mode, We don't have a way to tell what your pearls are worth; that can only be done by an appraiser looking at your pearls in person. However, if you could take a few more photos of the pearls on a white paper towel, we could see them more clearly. Is the clasp Karat gold? What size are the...
