Live Discussion: The New Bead-Nucleated Freshwater Pearls from China

Surely though these are the best of them. Just as tissue-graft-only FW pearls come in a range of quality, surely the bead nuked ones do as well.

    Looking for fresh water pearls

That is an ugly piece of shell, not a pearl.

This is not a pearl. Perhaps it is a piece of shell. And quite ugly.

Live Discussion: The New Bead-Nucleated Freshwater Pearls from China

I'm curious about what the nacre thickness is, to get that luster.

Please tell me these are Akoya 🫣

Using Google to translate from Russian, this reads: "I agree with you". The surface characteristics, the shape, the color, even the way it's connected to the clasp. Basically it's experience, from seeing a lot of pearls.

Please tell me these are Akoya 🫣

I think they look like freshwaters.

Help identify the pearls used in this necklace

Given that it is a modern piece I think it is most likely that the pearls are freshwaters from China, but large baroque akoyas are a possibility too. Given the size and luster they are less likely to be south sea pearls. And given that it is a modern piece there is no reason to think they are...

Help identify the pearls used in this necklace

Do you have any more information about the piece? Its age? Do you know for a fact that those are diamonds? What is the metal surrounding them? Have the green stones been identified? I'd love to see a photo of the entire piece if you have one.

My new Golden South Sea Pearl strand just arrived! 🌟

Lovely! Mine didn't come in a box, but I use another box, and store it unclasped so it fits the space. That won't hurt the pearls.

    20mm pearls

Sorry, but the surface looks imitation to me. Is this the same strand as in your post from 2024? That was imitation. https://www.pearl-guide.com/threads/thought-they-were-glass-at-first-maybe-not.462282/

    Pearl life

Twenty years is a long time, and pearls are soft gems. They need to be cared for properly. Sweat and skin oils take their toll over time. Air pollution doesn't help either. This is why many vendors include a microfiber cloth with pearls they sell. But even if your pearl did not come with a...

Can you tell me about these pearls? Are they German?

The eggy shapes point to their being cultured freshwater pearls from China. 585 is 14K gold (i.e. 585/1000 parts gold), but that just tells you the clasp was probably not made in the USA. I do not recognize the mark after the 585, but marks on clasps are usually the manufacturer of the clasp...

    Fuzzy knots

I watched just enough to see how she makes the knot , which is different from my method, but I can't see any reason why that should cause thread to fray. I suspect it's just that bracelets undergo more stress than necklaces.
