Yes, that is how I understand it.

Also-- you could get a AAA instead of Hanadama. Hanadama pearls are AAAs that have been certified by the Pearls Science Lab (or the GIA) to meet certain minimum standards, but a carefully chosen AAA would also be great, and then you could get the larger pearl. Also-- I don't think single pearls...

You may consider getting on email lists for announcement of sales. Discounts of 15-20% off are not unusual, especially with holidays approaching. Then you could get a larger pearl for less.

    Can I see your pendant?

For a pendant? Sacrifice size, no question. Pearls are all about luster and as this will be a stand-alone pearl, you will want it to look fabulous. BTW many have noted that high luster makes a pearl look larger, and I agree. Especially a white pearl.

    Can I see your pendant?

How would you like to wear it? If you are looking for a large pearl to be worn on a long chain, then look at larger freshwaters, Tahitians or south sea pearls, since akoyas don't grow very large. If you want a daintier size pearl to be worn on a shorter chain, then go for the highest luster you...

    Pearls from Granny Stash

I think #3 and #4 are the same necklace. #1 seems to have a jump ring. And of course #2 are loose pearls.

    Pearls from Granny Stash

The first photo pearls appear to be imitation but I'd like to see them spread out to judge them better. Second photo, can you take the photo again from a different angle? One of those pearls seems to have the kind of divot we see in real pearls. Photos 3 and 4, freshwaters.

That built up coating around the drill holes is often found in imitation pearls. The surface, magnified, also look imitation.

I felt like putting this necklace on today. These are the 6.2-9.0 mm akoyas I found at a local consignment shop a few years back. The nacre is thick and the clasp is 14K with 3 little diamonds. The necklace is 18" long. These were grubby and needed restringing, so they were bargain priced...

    Does anyone know makers mark?

I feel like we saw something like this mark recently on the forum but can't recall where.

    I think baroque akoyas.

Making a bracelet with the better ones would also give you practice knotting. :)

Are they Ugly Tahitians or not? 🧐

We have all bought some pearls we regretted somewhere along the way. Consider it part of your pearl education. ;)

To me they look like bad quality dyed FWP. Sorry.

Please tell me these are Akoya 🫣

That helps a lot. I will go with akoyas now based on those photos. They are not all fully round but that happens with akoyas, and I see one in your second photo that looks a bit like one of my more gnarly baroque akoyas. I would clean them and restring them.

Faux pearls on gold post...how to remove?

I'm in the process of trying to get 18K cups off my gray Majorica studs. So far I have not gotten the cups to loosen even a bit, not after soaking in boiling water 3 minutes and not after microwaving on high in the same boiling water for 3 more minutes. The pearl is also unaffected. I'll leave...
