The clasp does appear to be Mikimoto and yes,they are akoyas. Mikimoto's pearl jewelry comes in lower (but still good) grades and higher grades. I dont know anything about the cufflinks. Do they have the "M in a shell" mark also?

In that first photo they look a bit oval to me. If they look that way to your eye, in person, they are freshwaters.

Some look a bit egg shaped rather than perfectly round. Is that true, or is it just distortion from the camera? If a bit egg shaped/oval, they are freshwater pearls from China. If all are perfectly round, they are akoyas.

The pearl seems to have warm tones to it. I'd go for the yellow metal.

Great, I can see the photos now. :) I think they are dyed, bead nucleated Chinese cultured freshwater pearls. The clasp is gold filled. (14K gold layered over base metal.) Gold filled must be 1/20th gold by weight in the USA.

Did you do the test I suggested: rubbing 2 of the pearl together to see if they feel gritty or smooth? In general I'm getting a fake pearl vibe, but I see a blemish on the 12th pearl from the end that I'd like to see in focus, very close up. If you have a magnifier, look at it closely-- does...

What does the seller say they are? Are they returnable? Can you ask for better photos? It is hard to tell from the photos, but they are less likely to be imitation if the clasp is a large 14K one.
