Marianne, pattye, BWeaves, jeg, JerseyPearl, MSC, Pareltje, Katbran, thank you ladies! it was a tough choice, as I basically have lost my personal project (the last pearl/ no more pearls) partner over this job position. But I don't regret it, as we together were going the doubtful direction...

    Freshwater rice pearls

I string small pearls on wire or (in case of the smallest) on titanium cord. It's maintenance-free and long necklaces/ multiple strands don't get tangled as much :)

    What color thread to use???

I've strung tahitians on Forest color and found it more complimenting and bringing out more color in the pearls than the black one.. so I would go ahead with the forest one :) you can always re-string afterwards)

    Gluing and Fittings

Thanks for saying that, makes perfect sense now)) I was confused at first, because I use normal pen to mark the pearls for drilling, but since we don't send the pearls over the marks have to survive only a few minutes or so. For a distant jeweller that would have to be more permanent of course)

    Holiday Wish List

Oh yes, this is a remarkable pair. I would set them with gemstones though, the black pearl with colorless diamonds and the silver pearl with included diamonds)) I have a small lot of near-round Fiji pearls on my wish list, but haven't achieved getting it yet :(

    Gluing and Fittings

Sorry, I must have wrongly expressed myself) I suppose if you wipe something with acetone quickly and then thoroughly wash the remaining off the pearl, it should be all right.. it doesn't make acetone safe to use on pearls though (as ericw suggested). I now re-read his comment though and I...

    Anyone heard about Aurora Chakin?

Katbran, Pareltje, thank you ladies)) I had to learn about color treatments quite a lot before and during my trip to Japan, and it served me well when buying there (long story, but it was worth it). Oh I would LOVE to try to contribute to an article for Pearls as One on what certificates are...

    Anyone heard about Aurora Chakin?

From what I know, PSL would accept any cultured saltwater pearl for certification. I've never seen freshwater pearls with PSL accreditation, but I suppose maybe there exist some certified strand of real-kasumi pearls, for example  In case of SS and Tahitian pearls the main reason for...

    Anyone heard about Aurora Chakin?

Pareltje, I'm not really strong in PSL certificates for SS pearls, but your certificate shows the "Best Gem Quality" mark (that is the highest they issue). I've never heard the term "chakin" before as a word, but well, it's japanese after all :D :D Just as a side note, I've seen quite a few...

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

There was a thread here some time ago, about Pearls with gold paint. I don't quite believe in gold paints in general, but the design kind of intrigued me. So after some experiments, pondering and constructive eye rolling I think I've found a way to make an earring that would be actually covered...
