    eBay strikes again!

It’s true that gold of 14 ct and upwards doesn’t show signs of tarnishing, but almost all gold used in jewellery also contains an alloy of some kind, the more alloy the lower the ct.It’s the alloy throughout the gold that will tarnish,so it is possible for 9 ct gold to darken over the years.There...

    eBay strikes again!

Help please,in identifying what kind of pearls are in this strand. The clasp looks basic, the outside looks copper, but I’m wondering if it’s a low grade gold that’s tarnished, the “ hook” part is bright and clean.Any thoughts always appreciated!

    Kundan necklace,Indian ingenuity

The pearls are undyed I think,a few are “ off” a beige or light grey colour,so they havent come from a large batch of uniformly dyed pearls.I hadn’t thought of Keshi, they have a slight orient, but nothing amazing. Thanks for your comments Douglas.I read that these necklaces were made by a team of...

    Kundan necklace,Indian ingenuity

I bought this necklace on eBay for £5.00,( approx$8.00 I think) It’s handmade, the “ jewels” are glass, which is traditional in kundan jewellery.I just wanted to share the artisan workmanship, using old techniques, basic metal, but a flurry of tiny( fresh or saltwater?) pearls.I had to look through a...

    All comments welcome....

Thankyou so much for all the intelligent input. The saying” if it’s to good to be true,it probably is!” comes to mind.I bought them for what I would have paid for a top quality cultured akoya strand, and am sure that the seller sold in good faith.I will try candling and see if I can post some images.

These pearls came from an antique shop in Milan about 5 years ago. They were sold as natural pearls with their original clasp. The clasp is 18ct gold marked with the French eagles head used between 1838 and 1919 as is the safety chain. The pearls are between7.40 and 7.55mm in size and the strand is...
