    Wedding gift for Daughter

The dress is lovely! I don't know what length I'd go with. A choker could look stunning. But what if she wants sparkly bling instead (real or imitation)?

    Wedding gift for Daughter

Have you considered the idea that her fiancé may have bought her jewelry to wear? A friend of mine received a spectacular akoya necklace from her fiancé for their wedding.

    Wedding gift for Daughter

I agree. Surprises are overrated. Better to be able to get what the recipient actually prefers.

    Wedding gift for Daughter

Do you have a picture of the dress from an online source? IMO, smaller pearls look better as a shorter necklace, and larger pearls look better as a longer necklace. Maybe decide the size you want to buy and then choose the length accordingly. I am not a fashion expert by any means so...

    Wedding gift for Daughter

The best length for the pearls when worn with the wedding dress will depend on the neckline of the dress. If it's not to be a surprise, I'd consult with her before deciding on the length to have it strung. Even if you/she decide to have it strung to 16" or 17", I'd buy the full 18". This is...

    Wedding gift for Daughter

It depends on your budget, but of you can swing it, I'd get Hanadama pearls. "Pearl Shrinkage Syndrome" is real; we tend to want larger pearls as we get older. While 7.0-7.5m is a classic look, if you can go larger, do. Prices jump significantly at 8+mm (because the akoya oyster is a small...

Stringing Tutorial with photos: Stringing on Serafil, Beaders Secret & Power Pro

I actually iron my Serafil before using it, for that very reason (thread being on the card for a long time). I use the setting for polyester. It takes just a few seconds. Instead of moving the iron over the thread, I pull the thread under the iron as it sits on my ironing board. Very quick, and...

For me they have a dyed freshwater vibe.

    Extremely baroque pearls

They do not look like akoyas to me. I think they are dyed bead nucleated freshwaters.

    Incoming semi-baroque Tahitians for beading

Yup! Silk is harder to work with in my experience. Serafil is a breeze by comparison. I also use an awl also to guide the knot to the place I want it, then pull the two threads apart to tighten them. I actually do 5 or 6 small tugs in a row to tighten the knot rather than one hard tug.
