    This is a worthless piece of shell, not a pearl.
    You might sell it to someone looking for a doorstop or a bookend. Maybe someone would give you $1-$2 for it.

    Over the past few years, we've been inundated with images and claims of supposed giant clam pearls, almost all of which come from the Philippines.

    This is likely due to a story about a supposed 75-pound pearl (34 kilo) a Filipino fisherman had kept under his bed for a decade.

    The story was reported on by NPR, Smithsonian Magazine, Forbes and so many more. Unfortunately, none of these publications vetted the claims made before picking up the story. Any expert could have told them it was not a pearl. It was a piece of shell.

    Who are the experts that you are talking about? The two guys from Switzerland that never even see a giant pearls attach to their shells?. Just look at the shells although they are big in size but the shells itself is too thin to carved a giant pearl.

    Are Mabe pearls pearls? Mabe pearls grow inside the shell,just like the giant tridacna pearls. All pearls have the same mineral composition;calcium carbonate.
