Hello,
I would appreciate any insight from people about these light blue/light gray colored pearls from Ming's in Hawaii. My great aunt bought them in the 40s or 50s from Mrs. Gladys Honan at the store. It is 7 inch set of pearls with 14k gold clasp with a matching set of pearl earrings.

Has anyone seen pearls like this? Any idea of value? Thanks for any insight you might have.

Thanks. Dave

Hello,
Sorry, once I listed it I realized it wasn't pearl. Thanks for the info on chalcedony. I wondered if it might be jade.

Thanks for the input.

I just found a letter from my aunt, who was gifted these by my great aunt, saying that the items are jade, but don't have any other evidence than that. There is a 14k gold clasp. Regardless of value, the pieces are quite nice. Just curious to find someone who might have seen similar pieces.

Thanks. Dave

Not pearls, nor nephrite. These could be lavender jadeite, but seem more gray than purple while the surfaces or luster are not exceptional.

As Pattye suggests, chalcedony, onyx or calcite seem probable.
