Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Ventured off ban island, but in a very small and inexpensive way. I saw this necklace on the website of a local gold/silversmith/gallery owner and loved the handmade clasp. The pearls are nothing special cfw, but I thought I might be more inclined to wear white pearls if I didn’t associate...

What kilnd of pearls are these?

They look like the same kind of pearls as those in a ring that I found among my mother’s things. The ring is probably from the 1930s. The back of the pearl looks more like a tooth than anything else.

I pulled these strands out of the drawer to wear to dinner because they showed predominately strong purple and cherry overtones. Put them on and walked 4 feet away to look at them and, traitors!, they miraculously became multi-colored.

Inspired by those of you who have tiny pearl strands used as chains for pendants, I was determined to make one myself. The 3mm pearls were too tiny to double back to knot at the beginning and end, and the beading wire I had on hand was too stiff looking, so I wire-wrapped 28” of 3mm pink and...

The wayward pearls from Cees were finally delivered today. Instituting a trace on them seemed to do the trick and I even got a call from my local post office this morning saying they were on the truck and heading my way. First, Cees glamour shot. Nest, my not as glamorous but still...

PD, I’m not sure it would make a good clasp, but I’m considering having a bail added so that I can wear it as a pendant. It is a watch pin. It was given to my grandmother by my grandfather on the day of their wedding in 1905. She pinned it to her gown and from then on, all the family brides...

Today’s grocery store pearls. 10.5mm multi-colored Tahitians from Wen that I made into a tin cup necklace and blue/green studs from Kamoka.

I just finished knotting these freshwaters from Kongs Pearl. I hope you can see all the beautiful metallic colors in the strand, the gold doesn’t show up in the photo. I strung them with leftover small metallic lavender pearls to get a little extra length. They’re huge.

Today was more 90°+ heat but at least the blue akoyas look cool. Strand from PP, Sea of Cortez mabé earrings, linen knit t-shirt from Poetry Fashion. Young women, cherish your youthful necks, they don’t last forever.

Purple baroque strand from Kongs Pearl

I bought a strand of the purple/green pearls from Kongs, too, and had to run pull them out of the drawer and sniff them. Luckily, no fishy smell. I haven't worn them yet, but here they are with purple studs from Wendy at Pearlescence.

Happy Easter from Paris! It will be another 80-degree day in Paris. I discovered that my hotel bathroom makes a good light-box with the diffused light from the window. I’m wearing 4-5mm lavender pearls from Kongs with the comet pearl pendant from Kojima and (not pictured) lavender metallic...

Sea of Cortez pearl ring (my first pearl purchase)

I haven’t been happy with the blue akoya studs I have to wear with my baroque blue akoya necklace, so I ordered a pair of Sea of Cortez mabé earrings that arrived today. I am so thrilled with them and know they’re destined to be favorites.

Last year I sent my mother's akoya pearls off to PP to be restrung, but the pearls were in such bad shape that they really couldn't be worn. Even though I have 7 or 8 akoya necklaces of my own, my mother's pearls have sentimental value. So, I ordered a strand of unknotted fwp and strung them...

Show Me Your Fancy Color Metallic Freshwater Pearls!!

Yesterday I knotted a strand of 4.5mm purple cfw to wear with my giant comet pearl from Kojima. I had nothing to hang it from other than a gold cable or a heavy gold rope chain. I'll think twice before I knot small pearls again. I spent a lot of time with a pearl reamer trying to enlarge the...

Show Me Your Fancy Color Metallic Freshwater Pearls!!

After an agonizing six week wait for them to arrive, my Edison pearl strand from Kongs arrived today. They're a lighter color bronze than I had hoped for, but they seem to go with everything in the closet and may be my new favorites.
