Check it out - their website is Island Pearls. They implant shaped nucleus....... not MY thing really but I gotta say, I kinda dig the Batman pearl myself! (not really - lol) I wonder how much they cost for a custom made shape? Hey, you could get your DOG or CAT immortalized. Or your husband I guess. I know we've seen mabe pearls shaped like Buddha for a long time but I didn't know you could get them personalized like this.......

If I were you I wouldn't believe everything you read on a website.

I think I saw a process that looked like that in a movie. "Young Frankenstien" Maybe. I like the part where they say that they have office(s) in close proximity to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. I guess that makes all the difference. I do too. I wonder if Scripps knows how lucky they are. Personally, I try to keep my proximity to Scripps a secret. I don't need those Scripps people bother me all the time with questions. Sorry, But I find a lot in there to chuckle about.
Their "The Vapor Encapsulation Process" on their nuclei sounded like a wordy over-statement of an otherwise simple treatment.

Any merit to this claim?

They haven't really opened for business yet, have they? This place has been in the works for years. This can be the new pearl in a can memory piece, available at chain jewelers everywhere. I wonder how many they can produce? when they will actually be available for sale? etc.

Maybe Jeremy can get tiny ones with a "P" instead of the little charms they use now........

My view of this stuff can best be expressed by W. Shakespeare "it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" But that is just my opinion.

The gadget illustrated on their site had me thinking the same thing. I still hear the horses rear up in fright every time Frau Bl?cher's name is mentioned.

Thanks for the chuckle!

I would think one could go to China, lease some freshwater growers, supply them with the nuclei and grow them as they did the Buddhas. I have seen that Mickey Mouse one for years, but maybe they never got permission to use his image. A contract from Disney would put them on the map, if they could mass-supply the little icons.

It seems to be marketed as a corporate image gimmick, a party favor idea, that hasn't sold to corporations. I doubt Batman is licensed either! But the yin yang is kind of cool. This idea could make a mass jewelry market one way or another. It is a business far from trying to produce rare or unique pieces. More likely it is lowly beader stuff, mass production stuff. I have just never seen any sales from them, yet. Maybe it is a business in mind only?
