At the age of 14, Laurie Davis was given a pair of pearls her father purchased on a business trip to China. Thus began a love affair with jewelry that continued to be fostered and fed by her exposure to jewelry, antiques, and furniture due to her father?s extensive travels. It also helped develop her keen eye for fashion and was a catalyst for her 35 years of involvement in the fashion world, from sales associate to entrepreneur, including 12 years as a personal shopped at the great Marshall Field?s department store. Her career at Marshall Fields is where her following began, she styled her clients in contemporary labels like YSL and Missoni, but was fascinated by the history and elegance of all things vintage. This all led to her eventually opening Lulu?s at the Belle Kay (3862 North Lincoln), which over the last ten years has earned the reputation of being one of the country?s top vintages stores.

As owner and curator of Lulu?s at the Belle Kay, Laurie Davis not only carries beautiful vintage jewelry, she also carries a meticulously edited selection of special occasion dresses and gowns, alternative bridal, furs and hats. The store has been a success, and the logical thing to do with a successful store is to expand. Laurie will be opening a second location on the third floor of the 900 North Michigan Shops on March 5, 2013. And in my opinion, it?s a brilliant move. The 900 North Michigan Shops retail space is adding another luxurious tenant to their already impressive roster of stores. I have endorsed the 900 North Michigan Shops several times; now allow me to do it once again with the addition of Lulu?s on the Avenue.

Lulu?s on the Avenue will carry the spectacular vintage jewelry the original store is known for. The store will also carry a select group of jewelry designers, including Roni Blanshay and Larry Vrba. They will have vintage and contemporary hats, vintage handbags and customizable leather handbags by Laudi Vidni. The big news though is Laurie will be debuting her own line called ?Signature Lulu?s,? which is statement necklaces utilizing vintage jewelry centerpieces, which she has been collecting for over 30 years. Bottom line is that Laurie Davis is the real deal when it comes to vintage, and you should definitely check out Lulu?s on the Avenue starting March 5, 2013.
