I love the old thread of taking photos with pearls, but it seems as. most of those are taken with cameras. Anyone have tips for phones? Especially iphones & getting colors correct. (could be mine that wants a yellow grey to be the default.)
I take the photo and then upload it to my laptop, and use the photo app to crop the photo and adjust the colors so they look like they do to my eye. I could also use the iPhone camera app itself to make those adjustments, but I find it easier to do on my Mac.
Don't get too close to the pearls. The closer you get and the whiter the background, the more the phone camera wants to adjust the colors to neutral grey. If you back up and have other colors in the photo, the pearl colors are better and you can crop out the other parts of the photo later to zoom in on the pearls.
A Breaker, I just use my iphone. I find that the lighting makes the biggest difference. Lots of people have said that overcast days are the best, but I’ve found for me, the best days are when there’s some sun and I can take pics out of the direct sunlight. I find I get the best pearl colors setting up further away from the windows. It sacrifices the luster, but I like the way the colors come through. I just crop the photos. I do not adjust the color/exposure.

Oh yes, I try to photograph in my bathroom on a sunny day, but in the shade, not in direct sunlight. My bathroom is all white, and I drape white towels on me, so I don't reflect in the pearls.
Thank you, A Breaker! My phone is old- an iphone 11. It took some experimenting to find the best location in my house. I have big windows in the back of my house. The windows where I take the “outfit” pics are in a stairwell and go up towards the ceiling almost 8’. They face the south which is the opposite of what most people say to do. I take the pearl pics about 8’ away from those windows in my dining room, but there are other windows also giving some light, as my house is all open. The set up is just a straight back chair in my dining room I use to set the pearls on with a draped paper backdrop.
Haha- BWeaves the vision I have of you draped in your white towels is cracking me up!
