I am going to attempt to clean them up. They are currently soaking in water. They seem to have quite a hard line scale on them. And tips?

Thanks for the reply Pattye. It certainly doesn’t look like the abalone pearls I’m used to, although it does have some pearlescence. that is the outside of the top shell and the bottom one.

I was at the beach and found two strange abalone shells that had largish masses of shell like material (see right hand of picture. Both shells are noticeably thicker than a normal shell). Here is a pic of one of them. I’m wondering if they are pearls or other sea creatures? Here is the other shell
