Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

Just wanted to give an update: I ended up keeping the drop metallics and gifted the CC strand. And I think it was a great choice! The recipient (my future mother in law) seemed to really love them (and they looked even more beautiful in the white gift box Pattye helped me source!), and I've been...

Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

I just wanted to thank everyone once again! I've been wearing the metallics these last couple of days, and have definitely started seeing much more in them than when they first arrived. :) And I have to agree with Karin - they definitely don't look stuffy or formal when worn on their own. I did...

Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

Thank you so much! I will definitely be keeping the metallic strand (after all, it was meant to be mine!), and will keep my fingers crossed that the CC strand will be put to good use. And now I have a good excuse to buy a strand of something smaller, right? ;)

Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

Yes, this came as a surprise to me! For some reason I thought it would be 8mm at their largest dimension, but turns out it's the other way around.

Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

Hmm, I was actually just wondering why - she has plenty of other jewelry, so it could be that she just never liked pearls?.. But at the same time she has complimented me several times on a CC strand of keshis, and even pointed them out to a friend at Thanksgiving. And she is not one to do that...

Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

Also, here are the white metallics (wearing them with a big sweater today and thinking that maybe they aren't all that big?..). Sorry for the terrible photos!

Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

Thank you so much for all the great input! I'm actually quite relieved that you don't think the drops would be a bad idea. I'm just so worried that I'll give her the "wrong" strand and they'll just get put in a drawer! Both are so lovely in their own way, and I'd just hate for either option to...

Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

Thank you, Karin. She has quite a funky style (think leggings and tunics), but I think I'm right in my concerns about her not understanding what drop pearls are. *sigh* I think the tone would be a good match (she has darker hair and more prominent features than I do), but once again not so...

Are drop metallics a good gift for somebody who doesn't know pearls?

At the PP Black Friday sale I had some technical issues when trying to order the small 5.5-6mm metallic drop pearl necklace, and Jeremy was kind enough to substitute with this 8mm strand: I received it yesterday, and while it's beautiful on its own, I don't really like it on me - the size is...

    First Basic Strand Purchase

I am no pro (by far!), but I think you should definitely go with the size you feel most comfortable in. I'm a huge fan of smaller pearls myself - I think they are very feminine and pretty, especially if your style is on the delicate side. Lisa, I think this might be the post you are referring...

Where to purchase a nice gift box for a pearl necklace?

    Thank you so much, Pattye!

Where to purchase a nice gift box for a pearl necklace?

First of all, I have to admit that I might have a CC addiction. In less than two months I've made my third purchase! Although the third set isn't for me, so that doesn't count, right? And the second one was a birthday gift, so maybe that doesn't really count either. I just purchased this...

    Can you get 7-7.5mm freshadamas?

Ah, size was the easy one! The real struggle for me is overtone and length... Oh PP, why can't you have a showroom nearby.

    Can you get 7-7.5mm freshadamas?

I know that typically the advice is to go with the larger size, so it can "grow" with you. But in my case I just really didn't enjoy the look of the larger size pearls on me, so I figure I might as well get what I like now and then buy a different strand if and when my tastes change...

    Can you get 7-7.5mm freshadamas?

This is SO incredibly helpful, thank you so much Pearl Dreams! Actually the difference between 6.5 and 7mm seems so small that maybe I should just stick with the existing size range and not bother PP with any extra labor.

    Can you get 7-7.5mm freshadamas?

Thank you for your reply, Pattye! I'll be honest, I did have some doubts about the sizing (all of the ones I tried on didn't specify a range, but said only "6mm" or something like that and the quality was... well, let's just say that was the saddest $600 18" strand of 6mm akoyas I could ever...

    Can you get 7-7.5mm freshadamas?

I've been going back and forth between akoya and freshadama, and it looks like I might be getting freshadamas as my first "dressy" set of pearls. However, yesterday I was trying stuff on at Macy's and came to realize that my perfect size is 7-7.5mm: 6mm is just too small, 8mm is too big...

If you could do it over again - what would your very first pearl purchase be?

Thank you Anne21! October seems to be one of the busiest birthday months among my friends and family, so plenty of festivities this time of year! Hope you had/will have a wonderful birthday as well.

If you could do it over again - what would your very first pearl purchase be?

I'm actually wearing them all the time, even under scarves! Unfortunately, the person who was selling these didn't have matching earrings, but I will probably be eventually contacting Catherine to see if I can get something made. Oh, and today just happens to be my birthday, and it's turning...
