    Freshwater or saltwater pearl?

Yes, a possibility it could be natural. Are you planning to reattach it to the brooch? Would it be possible to show us a photo of the brooch? We love these kind of mysteries.

    Freshwater or saltwater pearl?

If a true antique, or close to that age, my guess would be South Sea, so saltwater. Based on shape and luster. Has adhesive discolored the area around the drill hole, or is it another material (glue)?

    Decisions Decisions

Mango S, I feel you will love having a rope necklace, and the 52" size will be a fun and versatile length! The 7.5-8mm is a good size, with some weight, but not too heavy. (I have a similar pearl size, 75". If you can wear a 17.5" necklace, you will be able to triple for a chic choker look...

Antique double strand PEARL TYPE ID PLEASE

To me, these definitely look like imitation pearls, because of all the places that are peeling and the transparent parts one can see when the photos are enlarged. Nacre on cultured and natural pearls doesn't crack that way. High end imitation pearls can have many layers of fish scale coating...

    Judith Ripka Pearl Quality

Judith Ripka sold her name brand in 2014, previously it was considered a fine jewelry brand. She sold on QVC and had a retail store in New York. Now other designers are carrying on in her style. She did primarily gemstone jewelry with some freshwater pearls. These freshwater pearls would be...

    Mikimoto strand

A Breaker, I worked at the Washington Square Nordstrom, but sometimes shopped at the downtown store as they stocked David Yurman, which I lusted for at the time! Definitely a fun place to shop or just window shop. Remembering that good coffee, too! Are you still in PDX area?

Do these appear to be genuine Tahitian?

Thank you, Pearl Dreams! About 10+ years ago, Pearl Paradise offered extremely rare strands of blue Tahitians from Rikitea, a small town on Mangareva, which is part of the Gambier Islands in French Polynesia. Photos are posted here by fortunate forum members who own full strands. They can be...

Do these appear to be genuine Tahitian?

Late to the conversation ~ definitely these are dyed freshwater pearls. The shape and the blue-purple colors are the giveaway. I do find the authentication process ebay describes as peculiar. I have Gia pearls diploma, maybe I should apply to be an authenticator. I doubt the pearls are...

Have fallen in love with pearls since inheriting some :)

As photos 1 and 3 show some of the pearls strung and attached to the clasp, I'm guessing the photos of loose pearls show them having been removed from the remaining string, washed and are drying. No question in my mind that the pearls are authentic Miki.

    ID Help this necklace please

The clasp appears broken and was originally intended for a 3 strand necklace. I can't help but wonder if it was chosen to deceive someone into thinking these pearls are antique (over 100 years old), which they clearly are not.

Can anyone tell me what kind of pearls these are?

I agree with Pearl Dreams, likely aventurine stones and freshwater pearls.

    ID Help this necklace please

No, ultraviolet lighting isn't helpful at all. There's no need to take ultraviolet photos at all. Only the photos that show clear photos of the pearls on white background allow us to see the luster, color, blemishes and qualities of the pearl.
