    This pearl is about 11m in size...it is baroque so hard to measure.. it has a hole which I think is natural, not drilled...it shows onion type rings as shown. What type of pearl it is I dont know....it came from an old ring but I would like to make a pendant with it...what do you guys think?

    I do enjoy it......and it doesnt matter to me what it is......as for a replacement for another stone in the ring......not according to my jeweler who is also a goldsmith, and has inspected the setting closely. I would not bother with the GIA because the pearl would not be worth the cost seeing...

    How do you tell?

    Curious to know from the pearl guru's, how do you tell a freshwater from a saltwater just by looking at it.....for instance, say you had a barouque pearl, whats the tell tale signs for identifying it to be either salt or fresh water?

    It does look like a coin pearl......but it would have to be one formed naturally because they were not cultured as early as 1961. I had another look at the gold ring setting it came from......definately made expressly to fit this pearl......there is also a makers mark 'TE' along with the gold...
