What is this type of pearl necklace called?

Very nice necklace! But I do not know how to call it either.

    What in the SHELL hell?

Well, the newer photos do help see them better and they look like MOP beads made using silver-lipped shell. I purchased a necklace like that one back in 1994. I paid some $30 dollars for it. Got it directly from Lu Pearl...so price was wholesale. Hope this helps!

    What in the SHELL hell?

These kind of look like mother of pearl beads to me.

Debunking another widely held myth. Nacreous v Non-Nacreous

Perhaps it will be easier if words are associated with percentages? Slightly - Less than 5% Lowly - From 5 to 10% Moderately - 11 to 25% Not really suggesting these should be the numbers...just an idea.

Debunking another widely held myth. Nacreous v Non-Nacreous

I agree. The issue is that most people have a tendency to "humanize" other life forms (anthropormorfism) because they cannot gauge the experience of another living being, except under their human experience, thus "irritation" seems obvious, when it is simply not. It will requiere a special...

    Large and unique Blister Pearl

Hello there! This is an unusual blister, but it is also from a non-"beautiful" mollusk species (non nacreous, and beauty is -of course- in the eye of the beholder). There should be a market out there for collectors... of course! But, where is it? Hard to say! Its actual worth will be closer to...

I inherited pearls, and while there is so much great information, it's hard to make a call regarding these pearls!

You could also use a long-wave UV lamp. Place the pearls inside a black bag, alongside one true pearl...the real pearl will GLOW (actually, it will fluoresce) BLUE if it is a white pearl. The faux pearls will simply look "dead" (no soul).

In Zhuji - a visit to Angeperle

Not to my knowledge! But I know that he has been extremely busy! And Black Friday-Cyber Monday have been very successful...so, makes sense not to see the info here. I actually purchased some earrings from the Pearl Paradise site this weekend.

AGTA News - "Chinese/Baby Akoya" are Actually Nucleated FWPs!

Back in the 1990's Akoya pearl production began to grow in China. I saw many lots and they were pretty, but not as lustrous as the Japanese Akoya. There is still an actual saltwater Akoya production in China, but these new freshwater pearls are the ones we have to watch out for: they have a...

I finally gave my beloved her birthday gift: a GORGEOUS Golden Akoya pearl necklace. She LOVED it! She wore it daily! It just seems to "float" on her neck, and due to her skin tone it just GLOWS. It had been a while since I have purchased any Akoya pearls, but I think I can become a true fan by...
