    Growth lines or cracked pearls

I've intentionally dropped pearls on different surfaces and from different heights (I used to conduct torture tests to understand pearls better) and I can say that wood floors are very nice on pearls...marble floors not that much! I would say your pearls are good!

    Am I a Naive 19 year old?

Welcome to our forum @hungry4nacre If you live in Texas you could consider moving to the coast and consider the feasibility of culturing pearls in the Gulf of Mexico. There would be many problems to achieve this, but then again: why not try? Have fun and learn a ton in this fascinating pearl...

Been enjoying your posts! Pearl identification by blemishes

Hi there! This is a mysterious necklace...would love to see it up close! I believe this is a "mixed pearl" strand...I think -due to surface imperfections and markings- there are bot salt & freshwater pearls there. Some pearls I say...Cfwp! And other remind me of light-colored Cortez or baby SSPs!

    Bleaching Vintage Akoyas?

Peroxide is mostly water...once it dries...it dries! No residue at all. Should be good...try it an let us know!

Hello, I found this piece inside an oyster. Is it possible to know the type and value?

You have a cracked/broken Mabe pearl there. What a shame...it has a very good size, nice colors...but it is fractured and has no way to recover from that. Backside is Abalone shell, and due to the colors it looks like it came from an Abalone. The back side is Abalone shell, but some producers...

    Bleaching Vintage Akoyas?

Even exposing your pearls to direct sunlight will help bleach them...but just make sure they do not warm up nor dehydrate! I would enjoy them as they are! We age, we get wrinkles...a fact of life...some pearls will change color...but they still live & love!

How to tell South sea pearls?

Ok...so they are not even pearls...makes sense with the low price then. From the photo you posted I could not see any signs for a faux pearl...especially their drill holes.

How to tell South sea pearls?

With experience. You use that to tell them apart...you look for certain traits in the nacre, their imperfections too... But in many cases you do need to SEE the pearls, handle them to see the subtle differences and traits. I do not know the vendor. I would buy from a trusted, reputable...

How to tell South sea pearls?

From the photo it is not easy to tell if it is a true Golden South Sea pearl...but with that deep golden color (seems 24K to me) and for the value...I would dare say it is a dyed freshwater pearl.
