    What color Akoyas? Treated?

I have some round freshwaters. I should take photos. Instead of washing (frankly, I'm puzzled by all the washing), try wearing the pearls. The moisture and oils from you skin may help the lustre. Pearls don't like to be dry, which is why they don't really do well in safe deposit boxes.

    Anyone have stick pearls?

I like the bean clasp, so maybe look for some small barrel shapes? Amethyst would be obvious, but maybe tourmaline or fluorite.

Need help with choosing a pair of circled WSSP

I agree with the first pair for lavalier; seems like a natural shape for the setting. The lavalier chain will hide some of the lustre, if you haven't considered that. I'm a yellow gold girl. I have some rose, but I always reach for yellow.

I'm inclined to agree. Dyed freshwaters.

    Ebay pearl pendants

I think they're very nice to first pearls. You can see if you wear them often before you start adding earrings and strands and ropes and bracelets and Whoops! down the rabbit hole. :giggle:

    Anyone have stick pearls?

I like the purple stick pearls, very unusual.

    What color Akoyas? Treated?

If you can't decide if you like them, I'm guessing you don't. I know I usually get a gut reaction like OMG! OMG! when I like something. Or even a discreet breathless Wow.

New York Times article: the Mikimoto Tatoku Pearl Farm

The NYT won't let me read the article.

    Thrifted pearl studs

I agree, I've always heard good things about Ashley. When I search the quote, "20-30% of Akoya harvests can be button shaped", my search engine points to Seven Seas Pearls, but I don't see that quote anywhere on their site, either. They have a blog about rounds and baroques. I'd encourage the...

    Thrifted pearl studs

Button pearls sit nicely on the ear. You can clean the sterling posts with a polishing cloth. Congratulations on a nice find!

Tahitian pendant of 2006 from French store

I like to look at Tahitians on rainy days. There's something about the moisture and diffused lighting that helps bring out overtones. I'm glad you like the pendant, and I agree that it is very wearable. You may reach for it more often than you expect.

Very Unique Pearls...but I love them anyway!

The dark spots remind me of abalone pearls. Curious to hear from experts.

    Can anyone identify these please

I don't think a shiny clasp will make a difference; people are buying the pearls. When they have the strand restrung with knots, they can clean the clasp before reattaching it. Or, they may swap out the clasp entirely. I found your listing on the auction site, and I suggest you make it clear...

Tahitian pendant of 2006 from French store

The surface looks smooth and reflective. It's difficult to judge tones -- a good pearl will reflect the colors around it and there's only one photo against white paper. I'm curious about size. Please let us know what you think when you receive it, and I hope you love it! A first Tahitian is a...

Necklace and Bracelet of similar small multicolored grays

Just to be contrary, I think the light thread gives the pearls a floaty appearance; dark thread might look heavy, since the pearls are small. How long is the bracelet? It could be that the current clasp allows it to be twisted, if it's too long. Just a thought. Also, if you decide to restring...

    Fireball pearls at tjmaxx

So, I was in TJMaxx the other day and the fireballs were all still there. They had some tin cup style necklaces and some earrings. They also had a couple of keshi necklaces. For earrings, they had two, one smaller pair with CZ, and one large pair. I thought, what the heck, gimme the big ones...

Should I keep this South Sea necklace?

How does it make you feel when you put it on? Do you feel beautiful? Or do you want to take it off and wear something else? The price is indicative of quality; you could easily spend $3K on a pendant. Pearl prices keep going up, if you wait for something better you may find you can't afford it...
