    Your secret word? pearls edition?

My husband needed to pick a secret word for me for some military thing.....he announced that I would know it instantly.."coffee?" "No, more valuable that that"... "something you love"... the truth is, I love so many things... He finally is tried of waiting and announces "Mikimoto!" I...

    Bridgerton necklace advice

I love Jeremy's advice (He might have done pearl design a time or two...:ROFLMAO:!) When he said it, I noticed is that there is 1 of the swag strands that is shorter.. Jeremy called it the main strand...that allows the other 2 swaggy strands to hang down. Practice string is great. I think...

    Jaccard’s Pearl Appraisal

I am not familiar with the brand/store. You are getting great advice. You really do need to know the mm of the pearls too (Generally, The bigger the pearl, the more $$). The clasp hook usually has the gold marking 10k, 14k, 18k...unless it is European..then 585 or something else. The post on...

    Did I find $25 Mikimotos?

Perfect! Sometimes people don't think about making a necklace shorter or longer with knots or without very many. Take them with you...if you want to match them...it is sooooooo much easier in person! Akoyas reflect surroundings so you might want to wear the necklace and hold the earrings up...

Please help identify my pearls. 7mm with silver clasp. Is this blue akoya and how much should it cost approximately? Thank you

It would be helpful to tell us what makes you think that they are real cultured pearls? Check grit (faux rarely has it) and drill holes, if possible so see if there are layers & a bead...also get a loupe or take a 10x photo of the surface...does it look like spray paint? (Imitation) There is...

Curious your thoughts .. what kind ?

My guess is freshwater, but someone with more experience might answer. (Based on the colors might be saltwater?). There is no bead nucleation. The setting was made for the pearl, not wire wrapped as those prongs look soldered, so a jeweler or metalsmith custom made it. Wire wrapping is...

    Griffin silk thread

Hmmm.. the drilling seems to have changed over the years. I just had to start again on a strand with huge variability of holes! My solution to this one is to make the knots as big as I need to the biggest holes as I reknot this for the second time! Maybe Pattye...can jump in with all her...

    Super interesting & tragic Mikimoto

Pearl Dreams...close. He is a local jeweler who specializes in repair (I believe he contracts for several big box stores) he often gets interesting things in trade. Broken, he uses to repair, but other things he sells. He knows nothing of pearls. He, like many, think Mikimoto means $$$$$...

    Did I find $25 Mikimotos?

Wonderful!!!! Knotted in the Japanese manner..just 3 near the clasp. If you want the strand longer...re-knot all knots between pearls. Or enjoy them the way they are!

    Super interesting & tragic Mikimoto

Actually, I did mention that they are local to me. Which is very surprising, since pearls aren't really worn here.

    Super interesting & tragic Mikimoto

At $1000 for the strand and $200-400 for the clasp (I agree with @JMichaels that is about the $) Is out of my price range for just the Mikimoto name. If he doesn't sell them (I doubt he will...most jewelers around here won't even restring pearls.) I may see if I can get them for a deal and wait...

    20mm pearls

In case anyone reads this thread later.... They are SHELL pearls...man made. Some of those have grit, when I rub them on my teeth. But they aren't quite right for how pearls grow. I was able to find these by using google lens.....(actually using google lens on a different strand that looked...

    Super interesting & tragic Mikimoto

Maybe in Japan there might be loose Sterling Mikimoto clasps? But in the USA...very doubtful! The only way to tell that they were Mikmotos on a replacement clasp, would be for the paperwork to say " Mikimoto strand" & amount of pearls, size, quality etc...on it. It doesn't. So there is no...

    What color Akoyas? Treated?

Early on in my time here...someone talked about a woman who "loved her pearls to death," she never took them off! She had not only worn all the nacre off...had even worn down the bead. I have only seen a couple of photos like that...one with "natural pearls" for sale....made me look...
