Live Discussion: The New Bead-Nucleated Freshwater Pearls from China

I know a lot of people have been curious about the new type of bead-nucleated freshwater pearls being produced in China. I’ve been out to the farms twice in the past year and have seen a complete shift in how many of them are now culturing pearls. It’s a real transformation in freshwater pearl...

These are known as shell pearls. They are a type of imitation pearl. So they are fun to wear, but unfortunately not real.

I am not certain, but have been told that many special blues come from Tsushima. That's probably where they came from. There were from the brother of the gentleman you met in Kobe who had all the special tiny akoya strands.

    Are These Real?

From your story, I wish I could say they were real, but it does appear to be a strand of faux pearls. The surface does appears to be manufactured. It's beautiful though, and graduated nicely. I would recommend wearing it proudly :)

    tahitian pearls?

The images of the first are a too small to see the strand clearly, but they appear to be true rounds and some color has faded. If true round, the first could be dyed akoya. I agree on the second. It's a strand of dyed Chinese freshwater pearls. Neither are Tahitian - that you can be absolutely...
