    Restringing to change clasp

Unfortunately yes, you do. Regarding your other post, can you mail your pearls to a restringer? Pearl Paradise in L.A. does restringing and you could ask them for recommendations about a clasp that would work for you. I'm sure many people ask about that. New pearl book will be released on sep 15, 2025

That is more or less what I was thinking. I found this just now while searching for Dr. Hänni, thinking maybe there was an SSEF paper about this. https://www.ssef.ch/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/2008_Haenni_The_different_kinds_of_cultured_pearls.pdf (I haven't checked your bibliography but I...

New pearl book will be released on sep 15, 2025

Thank you. Will look again. We cross posted. I just wrote: What I did find fascinating is something you wrote about saltwater pearls now being tissue nucleated in the mantle. I had not heard about that. Can you tell us more about that? Is this maybe because of a greater demand for keshi shapes...

New pearl book will be released on sep 15, 2025

I have been reading and enjoying your book, Renee. But I didn't see any mention of these newest, mantle bead nucleated FWP that are especially white because of the donor mussels bred to have very white mantle tissue. What I did find fascinating is something you wrote about saltwater pearls now...

Help me with my pearl necklace

Add-a-pearl necklaces used to be fairly common. They are cultured akoya pearls -- real pearls, but not natural ("natural" refers to pearls that form in the wild without human intervention.) I ran a search on eBay for what add-a-pearl necklaces have sold for recently, and this is the result. It...

I haven't picked any up but I assume the bead is plastic, so as not to be too heavy. Next time I'm in there I'll ask to see one, and heft it.:sneaky:

    Pendant

I can't see how either one would be from Lake Biwa. Perhaps he is saying that but meaning freshwater? And yes they look the same.

Necklace and bracelet mixed pearl ruby

Ha, no-- your rubies are nice and possibly a similar quality to mine. I never realized until I shone a black light on the ruby beads that they are full of wax! Actual wax-- not glass. But that is in line with what I paid for them. And they are fine for my purpose. ;) Also-- in this last photo...

Necklace and bracelet mixed pearl ruby

The lepidolite is quite a bit lighter in color than rubies. It is a massive stone-- not referring to size, but that the crystals are very small, so that the stone is opaque. What about mixing rubies with Tahitians? Or with a single Tahitian? I made this some years ago:

To me that many rubies could still overpower the pearls.

Necklace and bracelet mixed pearl ruby

I was thinking of restringing these lepidolite beads (from a local shop) with my Freshadamas. I took the pearls to the shop so I could hold various beads side by side with them, and chose the Lepidolite because they have a slight luster (Schiller effect) and this makes them go well with pearls...

Necklace and bracelet mixed pearl ruby

I am considering restringing some of my FW with Lepidolite beads I bought. I happen to like necklaces of pearls interspersed with stone beads. I'm not sure about the combination of those rubies and pearls, though. It seems to me the rubies make a very strong statement and overpower the...

    Inherited Mikimoto Necklace

Decades ago, I inherited an engraved 18K gold bangle that I knew I would not wear-- just not my style-- and sold it to buy camera lenses for my SLR that I used a lot. I have told my daughter that she does not need to curate my "stuff" after I'm gone-- just keep what she likes, sell the rest...

    Inherited Mikimoto Necklace

I just want to point out that the sales slip says 79 pearls but I only count 74. Be sure to specify the correct number in your listing, if you sell them online. Maybe the necklace was shortened at some point. Do you have any loose pearls that you think may have come from this strand?
