Small golden pearls in an oyster shell?

This would be interesting to display on a small wooden easel in a grouping of treasured items.

Iv no idea what these are.Any thoughts?

Reallty interesting necklace and pearl shapes. Somehow makes me think these could possibly be natural river pearls. I've seen natural Mississippi River pearls that look similar. Probably worth having them looked at.

Small golden pearls in an oyster shell?

Hi Nick, welcome to Pearl-Guide. Interesting, could you show a photo from the side so we see the area where they are attached to the shell? Thanks!

Vintage Genuine Freshwater Pearls Knotted Sukhmani Necklace

Why is this called Sukhmani necklace? Is it from Sukhmani Designs, an existing boutique in New Mexico selling jewelry and furnishings?

    Thoughts on a humble strand

Agree with PD, CFP, looking pretty! Did you mention the length? Recommend restringing, remove the few very damaged pearls, you'll have a fun to wear necklace!

Hi. can someone help me confirm if i bought a real South Sea Pearl. im having doubts..

Are the mountings solid 14K or 18K? If yes, this also would favor the pearls being genuine. The size is very attractive on you.

What is this stuff on my pearls and does it make them worthless?

Catrin, ahh, this looks like someone's artistic vision to enrich the appearance of the pearls and give them some additional character. Some time back there were Zebra striped (dyed) pearls. And now we facet pearls, carve patterns, create intricate inlay. What is Sukhmani? The company that...

    Identify my pearls Necklace

Hi Abdulallah, These pearls are freshwater pearls from China. These are nucleated with a small piece of donor tissue, and don't have a bead inside, which is why you see many shapes and rings.

    Mikimoto?

This is certainly a piece deserving a close up examination! I'm curious to know what the necklace measures, too. Thank you, Pella, for finding that current Miki "lace necklace" and bringing it to our attention. Here's a preowned Mikimoto "lace necklace" listed on Ebay for $4530 4-7.5mm...

    Mikimoto?

Welcome, Square! Looks like genuine Mikimoto to me and in good shape. There are 5 rows of pearls, so that is many more than on a single strand necklace. Logo is accurate with apparently high quality pearls. I would describe it as a woven pearl collar (necklace). This could be from the 50's...

Where to buy loose gemstone beads?

Sometimes you can find a strand of mixed type of gemstones, or a strand of gems that have a range of colors like tourmaline does. I searched "multicolor tourmaline beads" on etsy and found a number of options and sizes. What a lovely way to personalize a classic pearl necklace.

Found these in a jewellery box.

Good information to know, thank you, Barbara! I have noticed both Stuller and Rio Grande carry bead tips in 14K gold plated and Rio has them in 14k solid gold, so they definitely are still in use.

    Peanut pearls,accidents or deliberate seeding?

Ahh, so much beauty and character! Yes, these pearls would have been rejects because of the accidental twinning. We know historically that perfect round Akoya, blemish free, high luster are still qualities most prized by many. Looking at your pearls, one sees ripples in the nacre, baroque and...

    Quick Mikimoto question

Thank you for the reference, Pella. This clasp looks like it has the rounded lock and hinge. It appears Mikimoto created quite a few circle brooches. I feel this piece is probably authentic. The seller does have a 2 week return policy. Evinz, in person you'd find it easy to tell if the...

Near round/Off round Akoya pearls or freshwater pearls?

Welcome, Classicpearl. Yes, these look like Akoya pearls to me. I see a few typical blemishes and color consistent with vintage Akoya. Only a very small percentage of a pearl harvest will have perfect round and blemish free pearls. Personally, I prefer the less round and baroque pearls. The...

    Peanut pearls,accidents or deliberate seeding?

Wow, Barbara, your twin pearls are lovely! There would have been 2 mop nucleus inserted at the same time in the oyster which then grew together instead of separately. In PEARLS by Elizabeth Strack, describing part of the detailed Akoya grafting process: "In most cases, two nuclei are inserted...
