As photos 1 and 3 show some of the pearls strung and attached to the clasp, I'm guessing the photos of loose pearls show them having been removed from the remaining string, washed and are drying. No question in my mind that the pearls are authentic Miki.

The clasp appears broken and was originally intended for a 3 strand necklace. I can't help but wonder if it was chosen to deceive someone into thinking these pearls are antique (over 100 years old), which they clearly are not.

No, ultraviolet lighting isn't helpful at all. There's no need to take ultraviolet photos at all. Only the photos that show clear photos of the pearls on white background allow us to see the luster, color, blemishes and qualities of the pearl.

TeaVu, I agree with Pearl Dreams, your souvenir pearls are genuine cultured freshwater pearls from China. Sadly, we've heard many stories of freshwater pearls being misrepresented as South Sea. So what you paid is ok for what you have. Enjoy!

It's much easier evaluate pearl characteristics if you take the photo on a white background like a paper towel. We can help if you post a couple more photos that aren't on a dark background. The clasp is a traditional fish hook style often used on pearl necklaces.

Here's a fun short video: Designer, Wendy Brigode Interesting how the spacing and material vary. Mostly I use gold fill findings, 24 gauge wire works with most drill holes. For myself I do a liver of sulpher patina (black) on the silver wire and findings ~ no worry about tarnish!

Welcome, Freshpeachez! You've found a strand of dyed "peacock" cultured pearls from China. They don't have a high enough value to appraise, but a long length like this can be very versatile and fun to wear. The luster is good and the 2nd photo shows the pretty overtones. Enjoy!

O of O, definitely a mystery! Thank you for the excellent photos. I agree with PD and BWeaves, most likely early Chinese fw pearls, still, wouldn't totally rule out naturals. With a bath and restring, they will be even more beautiful! Please show us your redesign!
