I’ve seen this “barrel” shape on akoya pearls at the back of several well worn necklaces when re-knotting for clients. Some have been worn down to the bare nuclei.

Many sellers on eBay fraudulently mislabel their pearls... and sadly people buy them.

This is a rather common pneumonia in freshwater pearls. Sometimes they can be quite beautiful.

I thought that Hyriopsis cumingii was a freshwater mussel species, not an oyster… Very interesting article. Buyer beware!

I have had success lining metal beads, and separators with a glass seed bead. This protects the thread from the metal. Seed beads come in many sizes, so you may have to try a few. Thinking that Serafil would give a much nicer drape than beading wire.

Sadly a diamond dust covered reamer is not very effective on solid diamond beads. I gave up and just wire wrap them now...
