Imitation pearls can have excess pearly coating near the drill holes that is similar to what I see in your photos, but given how varied the sizes and shapes are, I believe they are semi-baroque cultured akoyas. They could really use a bath and restringing! There is a lot of grime there. And...

I thin Polforos was asking if nugget pearls are like saltwater keshi that form spontaneously in otherwise-cutured pearls. I would not have thought so; I would have thought they were just tissue nucleated pearls that formed in those odd shapes.

Wiping with a damp cloth is fine when pearls are only a little dirty. However, it is not unusual for people to buy or inherit pearls that have accumulated a patina of grime over the years. In such cases, a brief soak (about 15 minutes is what I suggest) in soapy water helps loosen the grime so...

If the gold colored beads in between are gold that would add value too, given how pricey gold is now, but they could be gold plated base metal or gold filled. You can do a search on eBay for SOLD listings of similar necklaces to get an idea of what they would sell for, if that is your aim.

Actually, all my fake pearls are knotted, including the high end ones I collect (Majorica.) And many cultured Japanese strands aren't knotted other than the end few pearls. Whether or not a pearl strand is knotted is not a reliable indicator of the pearls being real vs. fake.

To me they look like freshwater pearls from China, the dark ones being dyed. Is there a metal mark on the clasp, such as 925 (for sterling silver)? My guess is that they are recent. Honora, for example, still sells pearls that are more or less like that.

Unfortunately pre-owned, dyed freshwater pearls don't have much value, other than sentimental.
