    Fuzzy knots

Do you mean a 2 strand bracelet-- as in, two rows of pearls side by side, connecting to a single clasp that has 2 rings? If that is what you mean, I would string and knot each strand separately, one after the other. Or do you mean a single-row bracelet that is strung using doubled thread? In...

    Fuzzy knots

I'm sorry, I don't know how to help. If we lived close by I'd get together with you, as I have done with several folks who wanted learn to knot. Maybe you could look for someone who teaches classes (or private lessons) in beading and stringing in your area?

I totally get you! I have to use a headband magnifier for very close work.

Then probably it's best to stick with thread. With every new skill there is a learning curve. I actually learned how to use beading wire before I learned how to knot thread.

    Fuzzy knots

I recall your previous posts about the knots getting fuzzy. Did I ever suggest stringing your bracelets on beading wire instead? With silicone bumpers in between the pearls instead of knots. And screw-type crimp beads at the ends to hold the wire. This is a potential solution.

"The origin of the cultured pearls"? That would be Japan.

Do we agree with the origin on this appraisal?

That is good, but Strack is really the expert. My mother gave me these pearls labeled Biwa for Christmas 1980 that I always thought were really Japanese, but afterward came to realize may actually be Chinese. I don't know that a lab could identify the species of your pearl without removing...

Do we agree with the origin on this appraisal?

Back again. The answer seems to be: maybe. Strack, p. 420: "In 1962, Professor Xiong Daren from the Fisheries Institute of Zhanjiang on Leizhou Peninsula in South China conducted experiments on producing freshwater cultured pearls according to the tissue method... He used the freshwter mussle...

I will take another look at Strack in the FW section of the book (later; eating a late supper now.) :)

Do we agree with the origin on this appraisal?

In Strack's book, Pearls, page 413, there is a photo of some larger elongated Biwa freshwater pearls. Under the photo it reads, "Large individual pearls of several centimetres in length have been produced since the nineteen seventies. They show many different shapes and colours." Based on this...

The best way to preserve them is to wear them! Don't just stick them in a drawer! As I mentioned above, nacre likes moisture-- and our skins provide moisture.

I think it may be hard to get any specific information on them as they seem pretty generic. So, here is what I would do with them. If you decide to sell them, I would at last wipe them clean with a damp microfiber cloth so they would photograph better. Grime obscures luster. Also, take really...

As to care, If you plan to keep and wear them, I strongly urge you to clean and restring them. We can tell you more about this if you like. And store them away from other jewelry that could scratch them.

The pearls look like baroque cultured akoyas to me. What we generally recommend to people who are wondering about the potential resale value of pearls is this: Do a search on eBay for similar items that have already sold. That will give you an idea of what people are willing to pay for such...

That clasp is really something! I found this about the jeweler, in the Channel Islands, U.K.: https://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15471 The jeweler dates back to 1936, according to this post. The clasp is dated 1812 so I assume the clasp pearls are natural. Hair jewelry was a...

What size pearls for a pearl bracelet?

We don't know what size bracelet the wife wears. Not all women wear a 7 inch bracelet. I don't.

    Pearl Clasp Identification.

They look like akoyas but I do not recognize the mark, apart from the 18K. Often marks on clasps are the maker of the clasp, not of the necklace.
