The diamond clasp is used with their higher-grade necklaces, so maybe that's the reason for the serial number? Why don't you call Mikimoto and ask?

That is a Mikimoto mark on the clasp. The pearls themselves would be akoya cultured pearls.

I think you will like 11mm. Mine are 10.8mm and very comfortable (I have large ear lobes.)

The bean clasp IS easy to use-- I restrung a Tahitian necklace of my husband's with one as he was having trouble with the box clasp it came with. No problem using the bean clasp now.
