    Stringing large pearls with wire?

Shani...pop a photo in...many people here can tell if the string is getting old...that has been my concern. It is horrible to have the necklace break & lose or ruin pearls with a fall. I do have a couple of wired pearl necklaces... I like the plastic wrapped wire...Soft Flex...hangs well. But...

Can you tell me about these pearls? Are they German?

The Clasp "M" is for Merlite which had high quality jewelry thru mail order. They used a wide variety of pearls. They look like early large freshwater to me too.

Vintage brooch - possible Scottish river pearls?

Looks like it. River pearls are also found in the US...mostly Mississippi. The clasp close up would be better to tell if it was US or Scottish. Looks old enough to be Victorian...maybe?

    LaTausca?

Deltah also made cultured pearl jewelry...most notably "Her" cultured add-a-pearl type where you can buy a pearl for her birthday, then have it restrung to have the necklace grow longer and she grows.

I have been given this necklace could anybody tell me anything about it.

I actually use super cheap dollar tree 3.00 readers...just to see pearl drill holes. But check with Pattye to see if she does restringing? She has kits. If getting it done locally, I would also make sure they use a great polyester thread like Pattye sells...not Silk. I love silk...but...

Help Identifying Baroque Pearl Necklaces & Earrings from Estate Safe Deposit Box

So here is a thought: Restringing is pretty easy, if you have bead cups... knot & go. The final tie is a knot thru the bead cup, then you hook the bead cup to the claps. Bella Findings has Bead cups (in silver, silver plate & gold fill) & so does Etsy & amazon. There are restringing tutorial...

Sometimes you can get a magnifying glass over it & then take a photo to read it... Then I occasionally can find it on Langs or with google or worthpoint.

Vintage Mikimoto Blue Pearl 14k Brooch

Shani...I wonder if this was around post WWII when Japan was rebuilding or post 80's death of many Akoyas? Blues are rare..so wonder if this was the best they could do at the time?

14k clasp indication of quality or what is the worse mismatch of clasp and pearls you have seen and why is it bad?

So I was the one who originally asked.... Since then I have found out tons! The Pearls As One clasp is the best time I spent, besides looking at a boat load of pearls... Do take the class...many people around here have codes to take it for free. I can now identify ok - good - great pearls...

    Possible Authentic Biwa Pearl?

Yes...I am often surprised by the amount of custom jewelers near or on military bases... often because the military need to be gone & jewelry helps soften the time away... I reminded my husband of that several times...;)

    PSS - Pearl Shrinkage Syndrome

I love it!!!! I especially love them all together!!! Mine PSS is slightly different... when I was in grade school I "borrowed" my mother's broken graduated pearls. In middle school I talked my father into having my Mother's pearls restrung so she could wear them & I borrow them. When I...

    Possible Authentic Biwa Pearl?

It is possible. Looks like a Biwa set in gold. But If it was in the 1960's...from Japan, I would guess it would be set in Sterling or Silver. It looks later or not from Japan? BUT....many vendors from around the world set up in the Airforce Base Exchanges and it could have been originally...

    Thrifted these pearls

Here is some information that might help. I have seen many faux pearls with 2 smaller pearls near the clasp, never real pearls with that. The wear on the pearls is more consistent with faux. Vintage Japanese makers usually used Silver, because they were master silversmiths. Around the...

Maker's mark. Vintage Akoya Japanese, but I don't know who

This is a new maker's mark to me. I am very sure it is from Japan & the pearls are Akoya. Any idea who would have had this mark?

clever idea for poorly shaped pearls

I just saw this. I think it is very clever...since this is only a representation...I wonder how good they all look? (I am NOT buying it...just sharing the idea & wondering.). But what on earth could the yellow be? It is called Mother of Pearl...hmm? What does everyone think of the idea?

    Pearl grading job options?

Here is a neat idea... There is a company in the US that buys vintage pearl jewelry, cleans, restrings & grades the pearls...reselling them...I doubt that has been done in your country...
