    PSS - Pearl Shrinkage Syndrome

I love it!!!! I especially love them all together!!! Mine PSS is slightly different... when I was in grade school I "borrowed" my mother's broken graduated pearls. In middle school I talked my father into having my Mother's pearls restrung so she could wear them & I borrow them. When I...

    Possible Authentic Biwa Pearl?

It is possible. Looks like a Biwa set in gold. But If it was in the 1960's...from Japan, I would guess it would be set in Sterling or Silver. It looks later or not from Japan? BUT....many vendors from around the world set up in the Airforce Base Exchanges and it could have been originally...

    Thrifted these pearls

Here is some information that might help. I have seen many faux pearls with 2 smaller pearls near the clasp, never real pearls with that. The wear on the pearls is more consistent with faux. Vintage Japanese makers usually used Silver, because they were master silversmiths. Around the...

Maker's mark. Vintage Akoya Japanese, but I don't know who

This is a new maker's mark to me. I am very sure it is from Japan & the pearls are Akoya. Any idea who would have had this mark?

clever idea for poorly shaped pearls

I just saw this. I think it is very clever...since this is only a representation...I wonder how good they all look? (I am NOT buying it...just sharing the idea & wondering.). But what on earth could the yellow be? It is called Mother of Pearl...hmm? What does everyone think of the idea?

    Pearl grading job options?

Here is a neat idea... There is a company in the US that buys vintage pearl jewelry, cleans, restrings & grades the pearls...reselling them...I doubt that has been done in your country...

Help, where to go to get a pearl ring repaired?

I know!!! Just drooling over the long strand of PP Tahitians worth as much as a car... Then my sweet hubby reminds me that I have ADD tendencies in pearls... & jewelry... another day, another drool worthy pearl(s). Like sweets, I can want them all, but I can only have a very few. But what...

Help, where to go to get a pearl ring repaired?

Yes! I saw that, but she doesn't have the pearl, so it isn't as easy as just gluing. But, I will try that with my ring!

Help, where to go to get a pearl ring repaired?

A friend has lost an akoya pearl from her 3 pearl ring and needs it repaired. She thinks I might be able to repair it. Although I repair lots of pearl stuff, I am not sure about a ring. I am not sure I even have a pearl that will fit & match, but the bigger problem is getting the pearl to...

    Inherited this beauty

Those are tough! I have seen them both ways: real and imitation. The difference in shape on around the drill holes can either be real or paint build up. You are going to need to use both the rub test & careful looking at drill holes. It is not helping that they are dirty, but you want to...

    Blue Akoya Pearls

The natural Blue Akoyas I have seen a bit more variation. I think it was in Pearls as One (but it could have been Matt Harris) that said pearls are often dyed as a matched strand. I also think there is a little dye build up on one pearl drill hole in the close up.

Mikimoto with a serial number on the clasp?

So... All you really want to know , is do they ever number necklaces? Right? I had a question about what I thought was a Mikimoto necklace, yes, they wanted me to send it in & charge & it would take 4 months min. So I was able to ask my basic question to avoid wasting their time & my 4...

Can someone please help me ID these ? I would like to find earrings that somewhat match.

Actually, you are just matching the white color. You can easily get Freshwater Button Pearls on gold posts to match... Akoya are harder since they seem to reflect the light more and are often yellow or pink undertones. Generally the Freshwater & button are cheaper too.

    Mikimoto (?) Pearls

A note, with the clasp cups, pearls are super easy to restring. I double knot & string thru a cup, then tie loop knots as I go... very quick. attach them back to the clasp when done.
