Don't bother with a search. If I remember correctly, back in early 2008, the calendars were sent to us from Pearl Paradise. They were free and yes, the pictures are lovely. Call them, maybe they still have some available (LOL).

This is my "exotic" strand. Although, my photography does not do the pearls justice, they are really quite metallic and range in size from 9.7mm - 10.5mm.
Akoya,
I just received an email from the Jewelry Arts Institute and I thought of you. The school is located in Manhattan. I hope you can get in. Their phone number is (212) 362-8633. I think this is their email address jewelryartsinstitute@earthlink.net. Good luck.

Yup........ I know just what you mean. The other day, I also read THAT answer to the Tahitian pearl question (on another forum). ;)
I assure you, there's other misinformation about pearls there, too.

Phone the shop on the upper west side @212 531-2723 and ask for Maryanne. I think she'll be able to work out a time for private instructions.

:oOh well, while we're on the subject, I just have to ask..... I noticed on ZE's profile page that her age changed. She used to be 46 and now she's 88. Caitlin, do tell:p.

Absolutely the best book ever written on the subject; I've been using it for many years. I'm also a little biased since I've had the opportunity to study with J. Stark when she had her school.
Sorry, not able to post pictures right now but I have lavender w/ copper overtones and yellow/gold w/ pink overtones. They're actually bigger and prettier than I had expected.
