I'm sorry, but my experience has been different. All my fake pearls were knotted, and many vintage cultured pearls and pearls from Japan were not knotted. You can't judge by the knots. But I am often swayed by the quality of the findings and clasps, but I've also seen sterling silver clasps...

I think it's a generic clasp. Any maker's mark is going to be the mark of the company that made the clasp, not the company or person that strung the necklace. Only companies like Mikimoto or Tiffany will have special clasps made just for them.
