    Freshwater baroque ones?

I thin Polforos was asking if nugget pearls are like saltwater keshi that form spontaneously in otherwise-cutured pearls. I would not have thought so; I would have thought they were just tissue nucleated pearls that formed in those odd shapes.

    Freshwater baroque ones?

I have a multicolored strand of FWP that look just like that-- I ordered them from a seller in China back in 2007 or 2008.

Pearl Beginner’s Guide – Can Pearls Be Washed with Water?

Wiping with a damp cloth is fine when pearls are only a little dirty. However, it is not unusual for people to buy or inherit pearls that have accumulated a patina of grime over the years. In such cases, a brief soak (about 15 minutes is what I suggest) in soapy water helps loosen the grime so...

    Found pearls

If the gold colored beads in between are gold that would add value too, given how pricey gold is now, but they could be gold plated base metal or gold filled. You can do a search on eBay for SOLD listings of similar necklaces to get an idea of what they would sell for, if that is your aim.

Pearl Luster: The Quality Factor Behind a $1.5 Million Price Tag with Pearl Paradise

Actually, all my fake pearls are knotted, including the high end ones I collect (Majorica.) And many cultured Japanese strands aren't knotted other than the end few pearls. Whether or not a pearl strand is knotted is not a reliable indicator of the pearls being real vs. fake.

    Gifted Pearls

To me they look like freshwater pearls from China, the dark ones being dyed. Is there a metal mark on the clasp, such as 925 (for sterling silver)? My guess is that they are recent. Honora, for example, still sells pearls that are more or less like that.

2 Sets of Pearls for Identification

Those are baroque akoya pearls; some of the pearls are in poor condition. You can see where the nacre was lost near some of the drill holes. Unfortunately pre-owned pearls in general tend not to sell for much money, but you can look on eBay at SOLD baroque akoya pearls to get an idea of what...

Help. Pesrls inherited from my grandmother and interested if these are real but so much information out there

Akoyas are Japanese cultured pearls. (I should say, most are Japanese; akoyas are also farmed in Vietnam and were farmed in China for a time; I think not so much any more. Yours are likely Japanese.) They have a bead inside with the goal of making them round as the oyster lays down nacre over...

Help. Pesrls inherited from my grandmother and interested if these are real but so much information out there

They appear to be vintage baroque akoya pearls, needing to be restrung. Silk become weak with age and use and can break. Their highest value is sentimental value. Neither the pearls nor the clasp have a high resale value, and their replacement value would not be high enough to warrant...

  19. Pearl Dreams

    Are these possibly fake pearls?

Not fake. They look like bead nucleated pearls, but in poor condition. The nacre has broken away there revealing the shell bead inside.
