    The diamond clasp is used with their higher-grade necklaces, so maybe that's the reason for the serial number? Why don't you call Mikimoto and ask?

    The bean clasp IS easy to use-- I restrung a Tahitian necklace of my husband's with one as he was having trouble with the box clasp it came with. No problem using the bean clasp now.

    If you look at the areas where there is no nacre, the adjacent nacre does appear to be thin.

    They appear to be cultured Chinese freshwater pearls-- yes, low grade. The colors are common and occur naturally in fwp. Some appear to have a bead nucleus, as the bead is visible where there is no nacre.
