    Pearl identification by blemishes

Hi there! This is a mysterious necklace...would love to see it up close! I believe this is a "mixed pearl" strand...I think -due to surface imperfections and markings- there are bot salt & freshwater pearls there. Some pearls I say...Cfwp! And other remind me of light-colored Cortez or baby SSPs!

Hello, I found this piece inside an oyster. Is it possible to know the type and value?

You have a cracked/broken Mabe pearl there. What a shame...it has a very good size, nice colors...but it is fractured and has no way to recover from that. Backside is Abalone shell, and due to the colors it looks like it came from an Abalone. The back side is Abalone shell, but some producers...

    Bleaching Vintage Akoyas?

Even exposing your pearls to direct sunlight will help bleach them...but just make sure they do not warm up nor dehydrate! I would enjoy them as they are! We age, we get wrinkles...a fact of life...some pearls will change color...but they still live & love!

How to tell South sea pearls?

Ok...so they are not even pearls...makes sense with the low price then. From the photo you posted I could not see any signs for a faux pearl...especially their drill holes.

How to tell South sea pearls?

With experience. You use that to tell them apart...you look for certain traits in the nacre, their imperfections too... But in many cases you do need to SEE the pearls, handle them to see the subtle differences and traits. I do not know the vendor. I would buy from a trusted, reputable...

How to tell South sea pearls?

From the photo it is not easy to tell if it is a true Golden South Sea pearl...but with that deep golden color (seems 24K to me) and for the value...I would dare say it is a dyed freshwater pearl.

    men and pearls

From AI: Royce Lewis, the Minnesota Twins third baseman, is known for his dynamic play—but he’s also made waves with his jewelry choices, including pearl necklaces. While he hasn’t publicly worn pearls in the same headline-grabbing way as Joc Pederson, Lewis has embraced expressive accessories...

    Are these pearls???

Looks like it could be a natural blister pearl made from a drilling worm (which is rare amongst pearly mussels). So, my guess is that the mussel once had small rice-krispy pearls and that a few were released from their pearl sacs, they ended up against the shell and were covered with nacre. An...
