Does this look like a natural conch pearl?

Yes, it does. It has a nice flame pattern.

Do these appear to be genuine Tahitian?

So true that many brick and mortar jewelers do not know much about pearls. Some have told me outright that I know more about pearls than they do. Most jewelers just sell white FWP and akoyas. Always feel free to ask about a listing here, before buying.

Do these appear to be genuine Tahitian?

No, the color treatment is permanent. I saw the eBay listing and still think they are FWP. And that is just too much to pay for FWP. If you get a refund you can put the money toward real Tahitians.

Do these appear to be genuine Tahitian?

I just saw the listing. I'd return them.

Do these appear to be genuine Tahitian?

Right from the first photo they looked like dyed FWP to me. The color range is so typical. Too many of those red/purplish colors. And some are eggy shaped like FWP tend to be. Here are 3 strands I own. The neckaces on the right and left are Tahitans; the center one is dyed FWP. Look at the...

It's certainly an odd choice of clasp, Pattye.

    ID Help this necklace please

The smaller pearls strung in a circle appear to be cultured Chinese freshwater pearls. The large pearls in between these circles appear to be cultured baroque akoya pearls.

Just bought this South Sea Pearl set for 7000 peso in Puerto Princesa souvenir market

Right-- they are real pearls, just not south sea. You must have liked them (or you would not have bought them) so wear them in good health!

Just bought this South Sea Pearl set for 7000 peso in Puerto Princesa souvenir market

That would be about US $121. I'm sorry but I can't see how you would get south sea pearls for that price. The blemish also doesn't look like SSP to me. I think freshwaters is more likely, but I'm interested to know what others think.

Can anyone tell me what kind of pearls these are?

The pearls look like dyed cultured freshwater pearls from China. I don't see a need for cleaning or restringing. Beading wire is very strong. As to the green stone, maybe aventurine?

    Help identify this pearl necklace

The dark background swallows up luster. They do look like cultured Chinese freshwater pearls, though.

    Found at a thrift store

Agree, they are dyed freshwater pearls from China.

Type of metal used in Tin Cups

I like half hard gold filled wire best, or Argentium silver (but even that tarnishes eventually and if you use it with pearls, it will be hard to clean the piece.) I have used rose gold colored craft wire from Michael's for a very casual piece.

What kind of pearls are these? 18k gold hoops.

Nice earrings! :) They look like cultured akoya pearls. The technology was there to make high quality cultured pearls, but akoyas are not all perfectly round nor perfectly clean; there is bound to be a range of quality, seeing as they are formed in living oysters. These imperfect pearls are...

    Mystery graduated pearl necklace

To me they look like older Chinese freshwater pearls-- 1980s- early '90s or so. Perhaps the pearls were originally strung differently, and the previous owner made them into a 3 strand necklace with the current clasp.

The earrings are marked with a T

I'm replying just so you know we can see your post! But I am not familiar with that mark, sorry.

    Pearl necklace ID-ing

I think @BWeaves was replying to the first post, by @GregS. In reply to @Momspearls, it's hard to evaluate pearls photographed against a dark background. The pearls could be off-round akoyas (generic brand). Try the 2 tests I mentioned above in my previous post upthread-- the rubbing test and...

    Pearl necklace ID-ing

Those appear to be imitation pearls. The uniformity of their size, shape, color, luster, the absence of typical flaws seen in real pearl necklaces, lack of pearl overtone colors and the inexpensive way they are finished all point to imitation pearls. Unless the clasp is stamped with a karat...

    Post War Mikimoto

I just want to say that whether or not the necklace is Mikimoto brand, it is obviously a treasured sentimental item, the pearls are real pearls, the clasp is gold, and it will look even better when it is cleaned and restrung. I hope they will be enjoyed in good health for many years to come!
