Beading Merries and Mishaps by Cece

I ordered the smaller tool today, because I want to make a bracelet with the little akoyas and the bright cubes. I guess I sold it to myself 😸 If anyone sees this, buys the looper tool, and wants help or links to good videos or tutorials, let me know! I started with head pins, btw. When the...

Beading Merries and Mishaps by Cece

That’s the best thing about the tool. When the bead and the wire are placed correctly, the action of the tool is completely smooth and low-effort. I watched a number of videos, went through a lot of craft wire, damaged a bead or two, but that’s what it took for me to get the process right! I’m...

Beading Merries and Mishaps by Cece

Since this thread already exists, I thought I would keep using it for my projects. Recently I’m motivated to redo some of my older pieces that I made when I was learning to knot and use wire. Also I want to create with loose pearls from my stash. Last night I felt like working with wire, and I...

Thank you, pattye! I thought about using some baby pink thread I got from you. Either that or ivory, as PD suggests.

    Best glue as of 2024

It can be so exhausting to look stuff up these days. You just feel bombarded with info and having to decide what’s reliable is hard work. I was just wanting to ask the same question, too. I have a pendant with a bespoke bail + post, and the pearl is full-drilled. The post is completely...

I’d rather have an orbit clasp or a toggle.

I want to restring them and add gimp, but aside from lacking gimp, they’re strung nicely. Perfectly clean thread and knots, and no stretching. When I do put them on new thread, it’ll be fun to choose the color. Won’t it, @pattye? The sun came out. Yay!

Thank you 😺 I love the rosy tinge. It’s interesting what all goes into looking at photos of pearls and weighing the evidence to identify them. Especially if all you have is photos and some scant info from an eBay description. The incorrect size in the listing skewed the process, didn’t it?

Thank you for your opinion, PD! They’re difficult to photograph. They also have a pinky tinge that I can’t capture. I popped them right on my arm, which is how I know I like them a lot!

The mail got here early! I opened the package and I’m pleased. The seller didn’t measure the pearls correctly; they’re smaller than stated (they said “3/8 inch”). But for once I’m fine with that! They’re 7.5-8mm and very round and very lustrous. More cream than white, leaning a bit towards...

I’ll get to see them in person today. Love those the magic words, “Out For Delivery” 😸 I went back to the seller’s page and their reviews are stellar. So I’m hopeful that it’s a nice wearable piece. If so will restring soon and add gimp. The clasp is 14K. so that’s nice. Thanks for reading, and...

Thank you for your input, PD! I’m not very familiar with that type of FWP, so I need to train my eye for them! In the pic they look rounder to me than FWPs usually do. Very curious to receive them next week!

9mm white freshwater bracelet from PP

I got these not long ago, and as usual I’m very happy with a PP piece. They were listed as 8.5mm to 9mm but all are 9mm so to me they seem very grand! They’re AA+ but plenty round enough for me. The lustre is more satiny than sharp, which is a white freshwater effect I love. We haven’t had much...

Hello, lovely pearl folk. It’s good to see the community thriving. After a pause I’ve been shopping a bit here and there. I bought a pretty bracelet with big freshies not too long ago from PP and will take a photo soon! Today I saw a bracelet on FleaBay and decided to take a chance. I hit “Buy...

Ordered SSP for tin cup bracelet—would love advice on making it

I’m finally back after a while away. We had a wild summer with house renovations and other stuff that was not very conducive to creativity. But I’m ready to get out my toolkit and my findings and get rolling soon. Also: VP is a style inspiration for me, as well as an inspiration in myriad other...

Pearls looking more beautiful when worn regularly?

Douglas, I realized that I still have some photos of them “before,” with a white background and taken in indirect light. For once, keeping way too many photos on my tablet is a plus!

Just added “Pearls: A Natural History” to my book collection

The book came in the mail last week. I got it from a used book dealer through Amazon, and it’s in beautiful, near mint condition. It was a library copy, and it looks to me as though it never left the library. The clear library covering of the dust jacket is still on, so that is the glare in the...

Pearls looking more beautiful when worn regularly?

I would like to bump this thread, because I’m still interested in the phenomenon of pearls being enhanced by frequent wearing. I noticed this effect again with a Tahitian bracelet that I’ve been wearing for several days now. I just realized that I have photos of it “before” so I guess I can take...

    My Natural Pearl Collection

Douglas, I’m very sorry that you broke your arm! I hope you’re continuing to mend, and are not too troubled by unreachable itches. I don’t know whether the device you use to post can be operated by voice and take dictation. By now you maybe able to type more easily anyway. Sending good thoughts...
