    Heart-shaped pearls

I saw these on the facebook page of a vendor out of Palawan. I would normally steer clear of jewelry with a heart motif, but these...these are the pearl equivalent of cat videos. Awwww.

Winter Antidote - Colors of Jewelmer

Definitely not bridesmaid's dress kind of peach. Just a warm medium to dark gold, like in the photo.

Winter Antidote - Colors of Jewelmer

    Jewelmer calls them rose GSS.

The secret of Empress Josephine's pearl necklace

Why is up for auction, when the royal family should keep it? And if it isn't owned by the royal family, shouldn't they try to buy it back?

    LaTausca?

GemGeek's hypothesis is good. Certainly why would an old graduated faux necklace have variations in color and shape? The tarnish on the clasp is similar to silver. You can try soaking the clasp in a warm dip of baking soda and aluminum foil, to bring back the shine. Please do post close-ups.

    Cause of pearl "rings"

How does that glamorise a low quality pearl? If it is accurate, then it only helps us to understand how pearls are created. If we want to discuss subject of glamour, I could think of at least five claims (most of which are factual) that have successfully made collectors buy pearls they would...

    Which overtone to choose?

Circled tahitians have such character, especially when they're blue-green like yours. Congratulations!

    South Sea Ripples

Wendy, here are south sea baroques I found early this year. They're not dyed, but the body color is platinum, rather than grey or blue. Are they like your ripples? Here are the same pearls sandwiched between metallic fireballs and natural colored akoyas.

    Parents' Folly:

I don't normally go for classic round WSSPs but yours are mesmerizing.

    My fixer-upper Tahitians

Thanks, KarinK. Yes, they are big, 12-16mm. And if you start big, the only way to go is small. So unlike other pearl addicts, I don't suffer from Pearl Shrinkage Syndrome (PSS). :D

    My fixer-upper Tahitians

It's been over seven months since my last update. My fixer-upper has undergone a couple of transformations. First, I added a copper-plated toggle clasp as the focal point. But the pearls were too big for the toggle to lay flat. So I had to rethink it. It still needed a focal point (and I...

    "Genuine Japanese Kasumi Pearls"

Hi, Sueki. If you refer to the Exquisite Japanese Blue Akoya Cultured Pearls Grapes & Leaves Sterling Bracelet, c. 1950's ! , the pearl shape and body color seem consistent with baroque akoya, but a few of those pearls (10+mm) seem too large for what is normally available. While I like the...

    Supersized SSPs, anyone?

This rope of South Sea gas giants was among a collection of Jewelmer centerpieces on display at the #JewelmerGala2014. The largest pearl probably measured over 40mm.

Ever wonder what happens when you drill a souffl? pearl?

I'm cleaning three half-drilled souffles now. These buggers are little cannons. Someone should have warned me to use an apron. And a mask. :( How do you know when it's all clean inside?

Great Jewelmer video on pearl farming in the Sulu-Sulawesi Sea

Since I was lucky enough to squeeze myself into the 2014 Jewelmer Gala guest list, I decided to do a little research. I found this four-year old video that has very good footage of the Badjao sea gypsies, spats, oysters, and part of the farming process. Unfortunately, the video is only one of...

    The designer's corner

Thanks, JerseyPearl. I discovered it, literally by accident. I originally had them pointing upward on a beading wire. Then the whole thing slipped through my fingers. Can you believe it, every pearl fell off the wire and bounced all over the floor. As I returned them one by one to the...

    The designer's corner

Brenda, are you making pendants to go with the earrings? Thanks, Pkinnew and SunSeeker. Here's today's work in progress. Metallic fireballs (crazy overtones!) with aquamarine-opal spacers and a souffl? pendant.

They're lovely, Bailey1856. I know this was one of your first major online purchases. I'm glad it worked out for you.

    The designer's corner

Your own freshwater harvest strand; I thought so! Such varied shapes, too--you're a much braver designer than me.

    The designer's corner

Thanks, everyone! GemGeek, your encouragement means a lot to me. Jeremy, I can't wait to see what the PP blog has in store. (But I suspect I know what it may be.) Katbran, it looks like Fall is the season of the harvest strand, in all possible interpretations. Lindaphillipsbong, thanks...
