    How to Wear Pearls

Now, with wrapping around the neck you have to be careful about the weight dragging the top loop down strangling the wearer (yes, guilty), so pearl shorteners may need to be used to avoid slipping.

    How to Wear Pearls

Against a solid background there could be some creative knotting done for a "floral" effect. Of course that has to be done very carefully to avoid looking like the cheap Chinese displays. Helps shorten and fix it as well, assuming it doesn't slip. I usually double layer and knot the lower loop...

    Exotics!!!

If you do a search there has been extensive discussion about these two techniques. Polishing pretty much gets rid of surface particles, and luster treatment involves temperature treatments or chemicals to "tighten" nacre surface, which normally do not last as it alters the structure of the nacre.

    Hunting for long FW drops

I agree, she does have some with great luster and surface. It's really luck of the draw as to whether you will find 3 matching ones though. Some of them are ringed as well. But I think I've just been too pampered by PG and find fault with everything else.

    Hunting for long FW drops

With Lilei1971 you have to know that she uses stock photos. While I have had some great deals from her, I have had to cull quite a lot. Her AAA is PG standard AA+, which isn't bad, but anything lower than AAA in her listings you have to be careful of. The larger the pearls, the lower the...

    Hunting for long FW drops

The drops I see aren't usually that elongated. The ones from the picture look too regular and faux. My favorites are actually the true teardrop shapes as I love the pointy bit, but the bottom might be too "fat" to have three in a low and still look esthetically balanced with the "B". You can...

    ICPGC - Pearl Guide Ruckus!

I doubt it would be an annual thing. It is rather cost-prohibitive, not to mention disruptive for business. Fun though. If we ever do have another one in LA I will do my best to get there. But I can always visit LA on my schedule. HK would be nice, though I think less people would be inclined to...

    ICPGC - Pearl Guide Ruckus!

3rd week in June sounds good to me. That's just before the school holidays, so hopefully I can beat the rush. VAustralia is starting a new direct LA flight from most Australian cities, and their sale prices are pretty good. Just hope the wheel doesn't fall off.

    ICPGC - Pearl Guide Ruckus!

I would most likely only attend one in LA. For me the main thing would be to see PP's mothership and experience it firsthand. Otherwise it would just be an international party for pearl lovers, not a convention. You don't see Trekkies (yes, i'm one of them) going to a convention that doesn't...

    Frostlink clasp

Cathy, is it possible to string the pearls yourself and put the clasp on just with regular full drilled pearls, or do the end pearls have to be drilled specially?

    ICPGC - Pearl Guide Ruckus!

Would it be possible to fix a date for next year? It's looking quite promising for me if I have enough notice. I'm booked out till Jan 2010 already.

You're tempting me to come next year! I should really do a grand tour of the US. Maybe if I don't take on a mortgage ...

    Silver grey pearls

I'm pretty sure it's the black akoyas that are irradiated, not silvers. Where did you get that information?

Time to show off my dark strands

Love the Tahitians! I do agree the flameballs are more casual and probably get more use. But dark pearl colors are the best! So I'm not the only one having trouble with UPS ... I had a lot of grief with this same shipment - they buzzed the once on first delivery, but didn't do so on the second...

    Tahitian Stretch Bracelets

I only have them in freshwater - they're the baroque ones which are 10-11mm. They don't seem to knock against each other, but I am afraid of the elastic snapping so I don't buy high grade pearls in those.

Erm... (Runs and Hides) I did try to restrain myself

Absolutely stunning! Mine also came yesterday and I love the sharp luster. I didn't get many bitonal pearls like yours, but there was some of the prized rainbow orient under indirect sunlight. Lighting is so important for pearls! Will take some pics when I'm less sick.
