    Grade variation within a strand

If it is a necklace, I would directly ask the seller if they could swap the duff pearls out with better ones. They should understand why you want those pearls out of your necklace.

    Grade variation within a strand

I find that with SSP strands, a lot of sellers like to hide the less attractive pearls at the back where the clasp will go, simply because they think no one will really notice them. Then again, the quality should not differ so much that you can obviously tell that some pearls are so inferior...

Barqoue South Seas versus nucleated Freshwater

I don't think the strand is ugly at all...that is what SSP baroques look like, there are even bigger ones out there, around 19 or 20mm, and they look like popcorn chicken nuggets from KFC! The nice thing about SSP baroques of those sizes is the really thick nacre. The odd shapes could make for...

Barqoue South Seas versus nucleated Freshwater

I obviously do not buy on ebay enough to even know what a reserve price is! and yes, definitely SSP.

    Lot of pearls

I think it could be the lighting that affected the colour of the pearls in the photo. Then again there are some fancy colour SSPs especially when you come to the golden colours, they can appear slightly greenish and even brownish. Here's some photos of fancy coloured SSP.

Barqoue South Seas versus nucleated Freshwater

It actually looks like baroque SSP to me, the "tails" are different from the fireball FW...here's a picture of some silver baroque SSPs with tails. To me the SSP baroque have finer tails compared to the FW fireballs. The fireball tails have a rougher look to them in my opinion. But the price...

Natural treasures from the Ring of Fire

"Indonesia is the world`s eighth-largest south sea pearl (SSP) producer." "In 2011, Indonesia`s SSP production reached 6,300 kg, accounting for 53 percent of the world`s total production of 12,000 kg of SSP." Those two sentences contradict each other? How does that work?

    Lot of pearls

Hi Perlinda, Of course you may ask :) The pearls are from Indonesia! And Hisano, you are right about them being yummy...they have such luxurious nacre! I wish I could sit in a room filled with SSPs, literally drown in them! Thank you too, Armita :D

    Lot of pearls

Thank you, Malaikity, Nurain and DaveTT! The photos were simply taken under a normal white light :) The beauty of the pearls really just speak for themselves...no artificial editing is needed when nature just shines on its own. That is why I am so crazy about SSPs, they have such an amazing...

    Genuine South Sea?

Sometimes under a white light or strong light, the colour of golden SSPs can appear very intense, especially in photos. For example like this strand that was simply taken under indirect sunlight from a window...

    Just a little story

The pearls were stolen...spoke to him again and i asked if the pearls are from a farm, and he said "yes". He said his brother "found" the pearls while diving at a pearl farm! and they don't own the farm. oh gosh...

    Just a little story

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but it is about the SSP industry. I thought that it would be a precautionary tale that is good for everyone to know, and also, in my opinion, quite funny. I have recently received two calls from random numbers in the Philippines. One guy...
