    Gulf pearls?

I had assumed from various articles that gulf pearls were synonymous with natural pearls, that cultured pearls were prohibited in the gulf states to to religious attitudes. However I have just read that a Pearl farm has been established in that area, offering cultured pearls for sale. Are cultured...

    Another little mystery…

I bought another strand of pearls ( please don’t tell the husband!) from an elderly lady, who said they were natural river pearls. When I asked her why she thought so,she said she had bought them from an antique dealer over 50 years ago and he said they were natural, but couldn’t be saltwater...

    Kundan necklace,Indian ingenuity

Thank you for your comments,Iv been out of the loop for a few weeks,so am catching up.Afterthe initial euphoria of realising it wasn’t brass, and not dipped,do I want to get it checked out? Our local snooty jeweller refuses to believe any Indian jewellery is gold because it doesn’t carry a...

    Ask the experts..

Thanks “El Cortez” I obviously don’t look at the right websites! The turquoise clasp is antique I think, the strand was bought at an antique fair in Scotland about 30 years ago.The other is a recent find, the clasp is modern, but the length is unusual for a modern necklace, and I wondered if they...

    Ask the experts..

I have two small Pearl necklaces, one with an18 ct turquoise set clasp, the other with a 14 ct white gold clasp, both are about 14” long.Iv candled the larger pearls which all show up differently so I’m guessing not cultured.Neither strand is knotted but between each Pearl is a smaller Pearl,or...
