My Turn for What Kind of Pearls Are These?

Way back then a doting father would want to buy his lovely daughter a string of pearls for her 21st.But most could not afford real pearls, so a string of good fakes stepped in. These were such pearls. They were the best he could afford. Honour them as symbols of love in a different era.

    Help! I broke my ring.

Completely agree. Doesn't apply so much here as the pearl came off the post, but over the years of making up earrings, especially studs, I've found a rogue slightly larger post in a batch of earring findings more often than I care to think about. There's fraction of a mm between nice and snug...

New here, need help with shopping for akoya pearls :)

Jeremy is right. Even without the link to look at the pearls, I can tell you that a strand of even pretty bad quality akoya pearls will cost more than that. I also recommend you look at freshwater pearls. Will you also be shopping for a clasp, French wire and thread since you mention you are...

    So ....where to from here?....

Do you want to make a business from pearls or do you want to become a knowledgeable pearl owner? (and thanks for the recommend Douglas) Either way an aspiration to learn, learn some more and then learn even more is a good thing. With pearls there is always something new to learn and to...

HELP with South Sea Pearl Mounting: Question?

That's why having a glue which you know can be dissolved is a solace when you've made 20pr of earrings and go back later to see one finding has hydrauliced (?) itself out of the pearl

    Akoya circle pearls?

I deliberately did not identify the pearl farm/company at their request. That is a sorted bag of akoya from one of their akoya farms. It's sorted. The photo I posted earlier in this thread showed an unsorted pile of pearls which was a day's harvest from one grafter. I was there and saw it being...

    Rice Krispies or Akoya keshi?

I concur that they are freshwater, if the gold/peach colour is accurate. That is typical of freshwater pearls. But they are little darlings. I'd probably remove the gold beads and the bigger rounds and let them speak out on their own - maybe one long strand which you can wear long or doubled.
