I would say: just be mindful of the product you use on your skin...avoiding those that are ACIDIC in nature...those would be the harshest on pearls. Most -if not all- perfumes are acidic. But of course: if you apply on the skin and allow for some minutes "sitting" the perfume will interact with...

Hard to imagine why someone would plate with sterling, since it tarnishes...as opposed to white gold, that does not. You can try and polish some of the scratches away.

About growing pearls in Petri dishes: No. They failed. They could not produce pearls. And if I remember correctly: all they got were small globules of mucus!

Well, they may call them "growth streaks", but it is actually what I said they were: sub-surface deposits of calcite or protein. And as @Yens has correctly stated: they cannot be removed, buffed, polished away. They are normal in pearls. These pearls are beautiful with these "birthmarks", but...

Hi there GoG! And welcome to our Pearl Forum :) Hard to tell without actually having the pearls in my hand and using a loupe! But these markings seem to be protein-calcite depositions...they may look like scratch marks, but are actually deposited by the mollusk's mantle, then coated with normal...

Those drill holes look like imitation pearl drill holes to me. Anyone else notice them? Kind of flattened and then kind of like a rising ridge?

Thank for the report Wendy @pearlescence I heard just a tidbit...lower sales caused by Chinese buyers not showing up, even when domestic pearl sales in China are skyrocketing!

FWP are becoming more and more beautiful. They may give Akoya & SSPs a run for their luster now. Gone will be the days of dull FWPs.
